I think that I know the answer to this question...but we went end of April last year and the management company told us there was no need to heat the pool, and it avg. 87 degrees while ther...Going the second week in June this year. Is there a need to heat the pool at a rental home? We don't want to swim in ice water like last year.

Just to clarify...the air temp was around 87 and blazing sun all week. I didn't think to look at what the water temp was, but it was slightly above the frozen mark. It was probably considered to be in the shade half the day...maybe that was the problem.

You would probably have more luck with this question on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board, but FWIW ...

In mid to late June it should be warm enough to swim without heating provided that the pool is in the sun during the day [not shaded by the house]. First thing in the morning at that time of year, unheated pools are fairly nippy; probably slightly over 70 degrees. However, they do warm quickly in full sun, and by midday they are usually in the low 80's. They start cooling down again about 2 hours after sundown.

If you primarily plan to swim in the early morning or late at night after returning from the parks, you might want to use the heater, but otherwise you should be OK as long as you don't expect the water to be at or above body temperature.

I think water temp is kinda personal taste, I mean some people only like 90%, I have never rented a home and had a pool in it, but I know Disney always keeps water temp at steady 80 degrees and that seems good in the sun.
We have been to fla in winter, air in 60's and people were swimming, grante dit was heated, but we'd never swim and then FREEZE when you come out all wet. And we were from NE at time.
To each his own I guess.
Is the pool a covered lanai type pool? in shade?
Are you saying 87 was ice water to you last year? If so, be prepared for warmer this year, but will you be satisfied? :confused3
Can you Pay if you want it warmer?

Good Luck!!!

There should not be any reason to pay for pool heat in June. If you get there and its not quite up to your standards, ask the management company to turn it on for one day. That way you will only have to pay for heating for one day, and in June the pool will not lose heat overnight like it can in March or April. But decide when you get there and feel it for yourself. :)
