Pool etiquette

Are there specific pool rules posted near each resort pool? I have been to pools and have seen total disregard of posted rules. Examples are...child without swimmie type diaper...or no diaper at all! Or weeping sores, diving where no diving signs posted, etc. Sorry to be gross...but are there health/hygienic/safety rules posted? Is there specific Disney pool etiquette...and how are rules enforced?

yes there are rules on a post at each and every Disney pool.

if you see a child swimming in diapers or nothing - I would ask the father or mother if they could read.... okay I can be a pirate: :stir: :rolleyes1

okay I generally don't say it to them directly - I just go to the sign and mention in a very LOUD voice that some people don't seem to be able to read.....

some people don't seem to realize that if their child goes to the bathroom in that pool - it will be closed for the rest of the day - or they simply don't care....

but the best is probably to call the front desk or security - there is a phone close by all the pools - generally in the laundry room or restrooms.

Just because rules are posted doesn't mean that people will follow them. They often do not.

What is important is whether or not resort employees will enforce the rules.

When we were at POP over Easter the bowling pin pool was closed several times during the week because someone did a doody in the pool. They did not enforce the swim diaper rule.

It was a pain, because the resort was so crowded that it caused the other two pools to be packed.

I don't know anything about how they do or don't enforce the pool rules, but I have to say that "Weeping Sores" sounds like a potential new Disney resort to me. If you break any rule - say, you get caught reusing a mug, for example - you get shipped right over to Weeping Sores, where the bus service is slow, the pools are crowded and dirty, the food court has a D rating, and the CMs have been chosen from the ranks of the recently fired.

It sounds very poetic to me...

LOL!!!!

Are you sure the children you saw in the pool were not already potty trained? If so, they wouldn't require a swim diaper. My dd was potty trained and out of diapers completely before her 2nd birthday - I'm sure people saw her in a pool (and maybe still do) and wonder where her diaper is.

We were in the same boat with our DD!! I can not say how many nasty looks we got for taking her into a pool without swimmies! So I got pretty used to saying loud enough for all interested to hear just how proud I was to be the parent of such a smart child that had been potty trained since she was 18 months old!! ;)

::rotfl2: that is hilarious..... i can't wait till our next trip to the world... next time i see someone out of line, i will tell dw that they need to get moved to this fine establishment!!!! :teeth:

I can't remember if they have this as a rule, so I am going to ask you people? Do they claim you are not allowed save pool chairs & then come back to use them an hour later? My family & I have never had this problem at the Contemporary, however we have had that problem at the Marriott Suite Resort on Sad Key in Clearwater Beach, where we could not get any chairs because people saved them but were not sitting in them they or were not in the pool swimming. So because of those people we could not get any chairs when they have a sign posted that says please do not save any pool chairs if you do not stay in the pool area. So if anyone can answer this for me I would appreciate it.

If you see something that is obviously a health hazard, please report it to management.

To answer the OP's question, yes there are signs, but unfortunately too many people think that the rules don't apply to them. :sad2:

Saving chairs......it is frowned upon if you go down to the pool area, plop a towel and a book on a chaise and then head off to breakfast or such. People have actually done this and then headed off for a few hours in a park, then come back at lunchtime and sit on down in that 'reserved' chaise. Is it allowed? No, you are not supposed to do that. If you are at the pool, swimming, then fine. Even if you have to run to the room for a minute, or go to the luandry area to switch over your luandry, fine. But, don't 'reserve' a seat and then leave for an hour!! That's rude.

Here's my "chair hog" story.

It was July 4th, 2004. We were at the BC, and were moving to the Polynesian later that day. Around 8:15am (the pool opened at 9:00am) I went downstairs to SAB and claimed two PRIMO chairs. Right next to the chairs I grabbed were five chairs with towels neatly folded on them and no one around. At the time there was no one in the water, and only four or five other people in the entire pool area. DH joined my a few minutes later--he had stopped to get us some coffee--I was not holding his chair for hours on end. The lifeguards checked room keys and gave out wristbands. We spent the next couple of hours relaxing at the pool. alternating between the chairs and the water.

By 11:00 Am the pool area was packed, and there were maybe a dozen single seats scattered about. Of course the five seats next to us were still empty save those five folded pool towels.

About 11:30 we had to leave, it was time to take a really quick shower and change before checking out and heading to the Polynesian. There was a family just coming into the pool area, looking around for seats. DH and got up and packed up our stuff, including our pool towels, and motioned for the family to come over and get the seats. And as I was walking by the five still unoccupied seats with white folded pool towels, I figured I'd be a good do-bee and help tidy the area, so I picked them up off the empty chairs and tossed them in the towel return on my way out. As I was picking them up a few other people in surrounding chairs started to applaud. :cheer2:

I have absolutely no regrets for my actions, and hope that some family had a good time because of it. To this day I've hoped that someone would come on the Disboards and complain about how the towels they had left on their chairs "for a few minutes" were gone when they came back.

sorry unless you can guaranteed she won't have an accident. the swimming diaper is still a RULE>>>>

kids not to mention parents act differently at Disney than at home. At home she may be fine - but remember Disney feels different....

I am pretty sure this is a public health department rule - which means you can be fined if caught.

And to think that some people say you're not helpful Anne!!! That's exactly what I would have done also. Man, I would love to have been there when the 'squatters' got back for their swim. Ah well...just a perverted sense of humor I guess.
