Pool Closure at DLH?

We've booked a stay at DLH for mid-May. After I found out through all you great people that the pools are being refurbished, I called Disney and said that if they anticipate the pools being closed during our stay, we would prefer to move to a different hotel. (We really like spending time at the pools and the thought of hiking through DTD from GC back to DLH in wet suits is not appealing.) The cast member I spoke with put me on hold for a bit, and when she came back she said that while they can't give a firm re-opening date, she was told that the pools would definitely be open again by late April/early May, as they'll be gearing up for peak season.

I kept our reservation at DLH, but in your experience, is the information given over the phone usually correct? We're all going to be pretty bummed out if the pools are closed when we're there, but on the other hand we were really looking forward to checking out DLH for the first time. I don't want to cancel our room there for no reason.

I think what they said was correct - BUT I don't think they can guarantee anything and I think that is the uncertainty you won't be able to get away from for something like this. They are renovating so while they intend to be done by that time, something could go wrong that would create a delay, which is likely why they do not provide a solid end date. I would also think they'd factor in a buffer into their renovation project, as most projects do this - so you are likely safe in your timing. Hopefully they are up and running as soon as possible since staying at an onsite hotel without a pool would not be fun (we were actually going to try it there in March but I said no way I am paying that much and there be no pools). Mid May will also be very warm so you will certainly have opportunity to enjoy them.

Just to update, the pools are actually being worked on as we speak. There's definintely activity and should be finished sooner rather than later.

I think you're definitely safe in May especially considering the information you received over the phone. I'm guessing the pools will be back open before spring breaks begin the end of March. The rates they're wanting in March certainly support that thinking! :)

You could always make a back up reservation at the Grand for your dates. You would be charged the first night, but that would be 100% refundable as long as you cancel before 5 days of check-in.
