Hello,

I've noticed some townhomes with pools have fences around them and some don't. When my sister rented in Orlando area, they could not open their sliding door to the pool without the alarm going off constantly. It didn't have the fence.

Is this generally true everywhere? I was thinking that the black fences I've seen in the pics might be the solution to having the adequate pool security but also being able to have the door open to the house.

We'd like to be able to have someone outside with the kids at the pool, but communicating with someone inside the house too.

A silly little detail, I guess, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight to this.

Thanks! jody

The law is that you have to have either a safety fence or pool alarms on the doors leading to the pool. But a lot of the homes have both.

We had them on the house we rented and all you had to do was flip a switch on it to turn them off. We did this while we were swimming and going in and out and turned them back on when inside.

All of the homes in Windsor Hills have the black fences. Many opt for the pool alarms as well, ours can be turned on/off though, so you have a "double" safety measure in place, but you can leave the doors open.

It depends on the age of the home as to whether they need a pol fence or exit alarms but some owners have both.To open a door without an alarm going off all you need to do is depress the button and exit. The alarms are designed for the guests safety and it is against state law to turn them off and they should be on all exits including windows that lead onto the pool area-the window ones are generally not so loud .Bearing in mind the recent tragic story posted by George I would doubt anyone would want to turn them off if they have young children in their party. They are a pain I know but it is better to have the slight annoyance of having to press a button than a disaster occur.

The last pool home we stayed in (Dec 07) didn't have the door alarms just the safety fence - you will normally find at least one.

Coral Cay Townhomes have a hot-tub rather than splash pool and therefore these have their own lids/hard covers so no need for fences :goodvibes
