Pooh Sized Passenger on Delta

Okay, so I'm a Pooh sized woman and am worried about fitting into the airline seat.

I read that Delta doesn't require you to purchase an extra seat. I'm flying with my semi Pooh sized although a bit smaller than me husband and my very skinny son.

Now, my question is this. It says on Delta's website that for the comfort of other passengers they might require you to move. The seat size says 17". I think I should be okay, but my DH says that there's nothing to worry about. Since it's just the 3 of us who decides the comfort of my husband and son? Since we are all in the same row. I'm not sure if I will need a seat extender.

Sorry for the crazy question, but I haven't flown in years and have put on a bit of weight since the last time. I've been trying to lose weight, but it's coming off slowly and there's no way I will have lost all the weight I need to by the time we fly. I'm just really worried that my DH & DS will be fine, but that the airline might decide that they aren't.....

If your DH or son don't complain you won't be bothered at all. It's Delta. They aren't really that concerned about things like this unless someone whines!

Do not book the exit row if you think you might need a seatbelt extender. you will have to move and that can throw everyone off (but if your son is young that's not an option anyway)

Not sure if this means anything, but, from the Delta site:

Customers Requiring Extra Seat Space
Delta does not require passengers who need a seatbelt extender or are unable to lower the armrest to purchase additional seats. However, for the safety and comfort of our other passengers, you may be asked to move to another location that provides additional space. In the event of a full flight you will be asked to take a later flight with available seating. To avoid this situation, we recommend that you purchase an additional seat.

The others are right. As long as the three of you are sharing one row, Delta won't care. The only people who could complain are your dh and ds. No other passengers will care.

You can also lift the chair arms between the seats, which should provide addiitonal comfort for the three of you.

Lifting the arm between the seats will provide additional comfort for the pooh, and maybe semi-pooh, sized passenger. It will certainly provide less comfort for the skinny passenger who will be giving up a portion of his space on each side.

I know the 3 family members plan on sitting together. I understand Delta doesn't have an issue. Understand the skinny passenger will have significantly less comfort, not the additional comfort you claim.

edited to add Needing, or not needing, a seat belt extender isn't an issue with airlines. Some passengers need an extender but have no trouble fitting in one seat. Others don't need an extender but need two seats.

Arm rests must be down for take off and landing. Also, on many types of planes, you cannot lift the armrests up all the way.

Arm rests on the AISLE must be down for take off and landing. Not all of them must be down. Your FA may however make up his/her own "rules" and try to claim them as FAA requirements LOL! (I had one a few weeks ago try to tell someone that the reason Delta didn't delay a flight was an FAA rule. Yeah RIGHT! Delta delays so many flights that they would be shutdown by the FAA for rule violation if this was true!)

That's true only when there is no solid object blocking them from falling. (The reason they are supposed to be down is so that they won't fall down and hit you if there is a rocky takeoff or landing.) If you are a large person and your back is against the raised armrest, it's OK. Also true if you have secured a carseat with the armrest raised, if the carseat shell is securely forcing it to stay up.

That's been my experience. I've seen FA's ask that the aisle armrest be moved down but never in between seats. I thought it was because they don't want you leaning into the aisle during a rough landing or turbulance.

I was in the aisle seat (lucky for me) with a semi pooh sized woman and a super pooh sized man on a flight from Denver to Indianapolis. I was worried that I would fall off into the aisle, but, I held my own. Mr. super pooh sized just barely got onto the plane as they were closing the door, and I doubt that there was a different seat that they could have put me into. I actually think that he was a stand by, because when I checked in for my flight 24 hours in advance, there was nobody in that seat. I can say that the up side to being the third adult in a row with two pooh sized people is that you don't get cold, and you don't move around alot if there is turbulence. The down side was that I got a blood clot in my leg (ouch), but it's better now.

You should have complained. A standby passenger of any size should then be told to get off and take the next flight if there is no other seat to move you to.

Please remember that the people that are being talked about here aren't comfortable, either.

And, actually, it is comfy to be snuggled next to your family b/c the armrests are up and you can be closer than with them down. (someone said it's not going to be more comfortable for the smaller member of the family)

OP should be fine if seated in the same row as family members.

I also go with a pp's arm rest down "rule." If comfort is an issue for someone who is too large to fit into an airline seat, they can buy two seats. I'm not donating part of mine.
