The world can be hard for those of us overweight or too tall. I would like to start a support thread for those like me who are pooh Sized and ways to make our vacations easier and more manageable .

For example I will be flying Spirit Airlines and their seats are too small for a plus size person I have to squeeze myself in the seat :(

If you are worried about fitting in the airplane seat and are going places that SWA flies, I recommend using them. Their new policy is to refund the cost of a second even if the flight over sells or give a free seat at the airport for customers of size (the airline's term) who do not fit between the armrests.

I just flew with a friend who took advantage of this policy and she was so much more comfortable. She just emailed when she got back and had her refund within 10 days :)

Good luck! Hopefully you're flying with family and can put the armrest up and share some of their seat ;)

I plan to fly Spirit in January. I've never flown this particular airline, but did pay for the slightly larger bulkhead seats. Eek!!

People are still updating the linked thread.

Why would you choose standard Spirit seats if you are extra wide, or extra tall? They are notorious for their lack of space.

I didn't know they had bigger seats available do they cost a whole lot more?

I think JetBlue has the most space, in regular coach.

Coach seating space is not really an issue for me, but I was recently very uncomfortable on a flight back from LAX, to EWR. It was a extra small, A320 "Slimfit" plane, on United, and it was completely awful. Not even room to fit a water bottle in the seat pocket. I almost had a panic attack, and I do not have those.

JetBlue and Virgin America are quite comfortable in comparison. If SW now gives refunds for extra seat space, that is a nice policy for those who need the space.

At the moment Spirit has the cheapest flights and we are on a budget.

Does anyone else have any size concerns for their disney trip this an open thread!!

I've flown Spirit and I was very claustrophobic and I don't have problems with size. Please reconsider, I know that they are less expensive but I was miserable.

. . . I didn't know they had bigger seats available do they cost a whole lot more? . . .

1) On other airlines, these would be termed First/Business Class seating.
2) However, Spirit calls them Big Front Seats, as they are smaller than normal First Class seats.
. . . usually ten seats on Airbus 319's
. . . usually four seats on Airbus 321's
4) Pricing
. . . in advance, up to $199 additional cost
. . . at the gate, up to $75 additional cost

NOTE: Spirit has converted most of the planes to the narrower Coach Seats
that do not recline/adjust. They now term this as "Cozy Seating". They are
known for their tight seats.

What a term for "we're cramming you in here like sardines" seating! Doesn't sound cozy to me. I have a bit of a personal space issue, I'm not quite Pooh sized, but I'm not Twiggy, and I have nightmares about situations like this. I'm grateful that this is not one of my flying options. Actually, for the first time, I'm grateful that Husband (yes, like that's all I call him) is making us drive down :drive: next month.

It doesn't seem right to stuff people together like that.

FYI...
Spirit's Contract of Carriage states that if you do not fit in one of their seats with the armrests down they will require you to purchase a second seat.

Page 8 in the PDF file; page 7 numerically.

Spirit has notoriously bad customer service. I know they are cheap, but as my grandmother used to say, "The cheap comes out expensive"

I hope I can lose weight between now and then I can't afford anything but spirit and I wouldn't want to buy an extra seat :(

I would try to go to the airport and get some idea whether you will have to have a second seat or not at Jet Blue. Some of the airlines have test seats. Maybe, you can get authorization for one seat. If you just don't think you will fit then I would go at an off time; maybe, the plane won't be full and they will relax the rules some. I think the policy is in place, but I'm sure they bend it at times. Do a red liner flight.

What would be worse than getting refused your flight; because, you didn't buy the second seat? It could ruin your entire vacation.
