Curious what the hours/prices are for the pony rides. My dd is 4 1/2 years old. She would love to do this while we are there.

Do they offer horseback rides at Fort Wilderness?

Guided horseback rides are offered 6 times daily (8:30, 10, 11:30 a.m., 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.) at the Tri-Circle D Livery at Fort Wilderness. The rides, which cost $42 per person, last approximately 45 minutes. Riders must be at least 9 years old and 48 inches tall and can weigh no more than 250 pounds. The horses are tame and walk pretty much single file during the ride. If you're an experienced rider, this ride may be too dull for you. If you've not had an opportunity to ride a horse before or have done so rarely, this ride may be just what you're looking for. To make reservations, call (407) 824-2832 -- reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance. It is strongly suggested that you wear long pants and that you do not wear open-toed or heeled shoes. To get to the Tri-Circle D Livery, you can drive to and park in the Fort Wilderness Visitor parking lot and walk; board the bus at the TTC and take it to the Outpost Depot bus stop; take the Fort Wilderness boat from the marina at the Magic Kingdom to the Fort Wilderness marina and then walk to the Settlement Depot bus stop where you'd then board the bus to the Outpost Depot.

Pony rides from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for children 2-8 years old, weighing no more than 80 pounds - Cost $4. You must be comfortable leading the pony because they will not do it...

We took our granddaughter for her first pony ride at FW in December. She LOVED it! This will be a must do for us every trip. I was totally shocked at the price. I figured we would be paying at least $10 to $15. I mean, this is WDW, right? :lmao: You could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard the price. What a great deal.

Maybe I should keep my mouth shut...if Disney thinks they can charge more, they will....hehe

Not only is the price reasonable, since you lead the pony yourself you can make the ride last a bit longer than if a CM was leading. We were the only ones there so we milked it a bit. My DD3 really loved it.

Going to do this for sure! i would have never thought about pony rides. the kids will love it!

Just make sure the person leading the pony has on closed toed/heeled shoes. No flip flops or sandals permitted. I think that goes for the kid too. I have a pic of my dd wearing water shoes. She never wears those unless we are at the beach, so we must not have had any other shoes for her while there that time.

The pony ride was the very first thing we did at the Fort. It was so much fun for DD. It was her first ride ever. Cost was $5. Here are some pics:

I so want to take my DGD. She's almost three, and loves ponies but has never ridden.
When we take the bus os boat to Fort Wilderness, how do we find where the pony rides are? I can't find much info.

OK, so I guess I should read the whole thread.;)
It says to catch the bus at the Settlement Depot stop, to Outpost Depot. It can't be too hard to find, right?:goodvibes
Wish I could ride too! I'll settle for leading...

Those are the directions for the trail ride. I believe the pony rides are in the settlement area. You can walk there from the boat or if you are coming to the Fort by bus or car you will need to take an internal bus to the settlement area. It is number 2 on this map Ft Wilderness Map.

My 9 year old dd is so looking forward to this. She asked if we could do it as soon as we set up camp. I may regret having purchased park tickets!:rotfl:

Not sure if you saw the ages on here, if she's small. they may not ask her age. :) I would think that the pony only cares about the weight, and not the age of the child.;) She is old enough for the trail rides, though.....

We have been doing this for 7 years now. My DD absolutely loves going to the pony rides, and she has her own pony at home. There is just something magical about a ride at WDW. For the last couple years, when we go to the fort, she wants to go see NEMO, the pony she has ridden there. The sad part is they swap them out every few years, so we are waiting for NEMO not to be there anymore and a disappointed DD (until she makes a new friend).

Somehow I overlooked this! She has been talking about riding the ponies since March-when we made our reservations! She was 8 then and maybe that's why I didn't pay attention to the age limit.

She just turned 9 and weighs 57 pounds. If children drive golf carts when they're not suppose to, maybe they will let a 9 year old ride a pony.:ssst: I will tell her not to divulge her age unless she is specifically asked.

Thanks for pointing this out to me.

I don't think that would be a problem if they ask her age then it maybe my 5 year old weighs around the same as your daughter so they may not ask. we leave in 25 days I will check and get back to you if needed

I was less than impressed with the pony ride CM.

I sent my oldest daughter {18} down to give my youngest {7} a pony ride. It was closed, they arrived after 5. The CM asked what she weighed at that time, eldest said 55-60lbs.

Next day, sent them back down again, same CM...said she was too tall. Why she couldnt have said something the first time is beyond me.

Not impressed.

My daughter rode Nemo in June - she is 9 and weighs 45 pounds. They said next year she wouldn't be able to ride because she'd be too tall.

Same here. My DD3 has ridden Snow the last two trips to the Fort. It is a rare day in my house when she doesn't talk about Snow. The nice thing is...if Snow gets retired from Pony ride service, there is a fair chance they will still have a white pony on duty. My 3 year old can't read, so in my mind ALL white ponies are named Snow. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
