Pontoon Rentals

Not sure this is the right section for this - but here goes.

For our trip in July, we'd like to rent a pontoon boat, preferably at GF (since we're having the character breakfast there.) There will be nine people in our group.

We've done it in the past - though it's many years ago. I seem to remember calling to schedule it the day we arrived - for a day later in our trip.

I read somewhere that boat rentals can be reserved 6 months in advance - like restaurant reservations.

But perhaps that refers only to dinner cruises, tours, and the like.

On calling today, all I got was a recording saying boat rentals are first come - first served.

I doubt they mean that literally (meaning we have to travel from where we're staying - Dolphin and hope there will be a pontoon available).

So just what is the process? Can I call in advance of our trip? Or the day we arrive? Or the morning we want to rent it? How soon can we make arrangements - and can it be via phone call or do I have to do it in person?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

We did this in July and just showed up about 45 min before they opened. We stayed at BWI and went over to HS to catch a bus but a van showed up when we got to the bus stop and took us over to the GF since the buses don’t run very often early in the morning. It was very nice.

Since you are having breakfast at GF I would just hang around the resort and then go on over to the marina about 10-15 minutes before opening.

Thanks mexi. I called and they open at 11 - our breakfast is at 9:15 so this works pretty good. Still, I'm going to call over there to see if there is a way to reserve it even a day in advance.

I suspect the point is to give the guests staying there preference, but it seems kind of punitive to make people drive to the marina, only to find out there are no boats available.

I have to say, I have never seen any of the marinas without at least 2 pontoons at any given time just sitting there.
