OKay, I have heard about how wet--er soaked you may/will get on rides such as Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids, but do people REALLY wear ponchos on the ride. I do not like the idea of being soaked all day, but my DH and DS think we will be screaming, "stupid tourists" Also, when do you put the ponchos on? just before boarding or when standing in line?

The only ride that I've regularly seen people with ponchos is Kali River Rapids. Splash Mountain you may or may not get wet (but you will most probably get a damp back-end). But, On KRR you will get wet and may get soaked! By soaked, I mean dripping shorts, shirt and hair. I never wear a poncho but for KRR I take off my shoes and put them in the covered bin in the center.
By the way most people at WDW are "Stupid Tourists" so don't worry about it!;)

Never gotten soaked on Splash Mtn, and I have never been on Kali because I don't want to get wet.

January went to the Universals. Day one rode the log boat (Ripsaw) and was dry until some "individuals" (not what I called them at the time) used their quarters to hose us. I was not happy. So the next day when the whole family went, I insisted on buying cheap ponchos at drug store. They were all laughing at me. But once they saw it, they all put them on. We then rode the river ride (popeye) and even with them on they got wet. (I had mine tucked around me and pulled up around my head tight, and even pinched the sleeves shut, it worked). People were so so wet. When we got off and put our shoes back on, and saw this in line family's huge eyes looking at the wet people...........we handed off our ponchos to them.

If you don't want to be wet........buy the dollar store ponchos, put them on then toss them away. Who cares what others think ;)

I hate to be in wet clothes, repeat HATE to be in wet clothes so yes I wear ponchos on any ride I will get wet on. I definitely wear them on Kali, and on Splash. If it is at night or cold my whole family will wear them but even in the day I wear them and usually my 7 yr old. You can get soaked on Splash. I put them on in line (don't hold up the line at boarding putting them on!) usually just a few minutes away from boarding if it is warm. I really don't care what anyone says, I'm not affecting them in any way-like I said don't hold the line putting them on- and I get to walk around for the next 8 hours with dry underwear!

Make sure you pull the poncho under you as you sit down and up around your legs or the water will come up under the poncho, and the seat is usually wet.

Wear ponchos,We were on splash mountian the ride stopped working we were under the fall for 5 min taking a shower to top it off I told my DH that we would hardly get wet (DH hate the smell of water ride recycled water) on splash M needless to say I have not lived it down in the last 7 trips, Now we get ponchos at the dollar store before we leave for WDW. It also helps with the afternoon 15 min. shower most days.

P.S. Tell them that it make you look like a Native WDW as you know what to do. Also bring a ziplock bag for items. wallet, camara, ect.

I absolutely DESPISE being in wet clothing. It is the most miserable feeling in the world to me. i would not be able to enjoy the rest of my day if I was wet and unable to change...so yeah, I wear a poncho on rides that have water! I don't give a rip what anyone else thinks. Call me a tourist...at least I'll be a DRY tourist...and really...isn't everybody at Disneyworld technically a tourist?

I actually don't go on Kali River Rapids unless I have a bathing suit on...the soak factor on that one is so unpredictable...a lot of people will wear ponchos and the water gets up under them anyway...it's hard to stay dry on that ride. It's definitely fun, but I was so glad I had my bathing suit on...it had a little cover up skirt that went with it so it looked like I was just wearing a cute little sun dress...I didn't get as wet as some people did and I was still pretty drippy when I got off the ride. Then I went and changed into my dry clothes that I was carrying with me and was happy as a clam the rest of the day! The woman who WAS wearing a poncho was soaked b/c a huge splash of water came down on her head and the water went down the neck of her poncho. Poor lady!

I bought ponchos for the four of us but now I am wondering if they are worth it. :rotfl2: Would be my luck that the water would go down the back of my neck too.

Can you wear a bathing suit? I didn't think Disney allowed swim suits in the parks. Or could you wear it because it looked more like clothes? Do you think I could wear a 1 piece bathing suit with shorts over it? Also does anyone have any advice for kids? I just don't think my DD4 can keep a poncho tucked around her very well, but I think she'll enjoy the rides.

Yes, some will laugh. Make sure you put the poncho on before boarding the boat. Saw some pretty peeved CMs at Splash one day with people fumbling with their ponchos as they entered the ride! Anyway, at Splash it's optional; Kali, in our opinion, should be located at a water park although we have found it is the only way to stay cool at AK on a sweltering day! DH won't even ride Kali . . . . not fun to be soaked. He does; however, enjoy shooting the three of us with the water cannons at the end of the ride. This is particularly annoying since we have always managed by some great feat not to get soaked on Kali! We've always been directly across from the "soaker seats".

On the real soakers like Kali and DDRF at IOA, I wear special quick-dry clothes: a cycling jersey w/ a sports bra under it, and a pr. of mens swim trunks, and I braid my hair that day. You cannot ride in just a swimsuit unless it looks like street clothes, but you can wear a suit with shorts over it. A lot of people I know bring a full change of clothing for after those rides. You should also bring a trash bag to tie all your stuff inside--the so-called dry box in the middle of the ride is usually not all that dry.

You don't want to wear white on a Kali day unless you like flashing people!

BTW, the rules on Kali have changed in the past year or so, and now you MUST have shoes on. Either wear sport sandals that can get wet (the only thing we wear on our feet at WDW), or bring a pr. of flip-flops to wear on the ride. Putting your sneakers up on the bar will keep them dry-er, but usually NOT bone dry. It isn't unheard of for water to end up a foot deep in the bottom of the raft for a couple of minutes after a big drop, until it drains out of the bilge holes. Even with a poncho on, if you are on the low side of the raft when this happens, your tush will be soaked.

I do wear a poncho on SplMtn; the water smells very stale most of the time; I don't want to walk around soaked with it.
