While at SSR earlier this month, a guide, not mine, inferred that the next DVC venture would be on the monorail! I offered that I had heard the Poly would be torn down becuase it is so dated, andhe said "You did not hear that from me", but just "might be". Has anyone speculated on this possibity?pirate:

I am sure the guide was just referring to the Contemporary. If the CR rumor is just a rumor, the guides sure want us to fall for it hook line and sinker. I think they feed that rumor just as much as we do! ;)

Where did you hear that nonsense? It's one of the most popular resorts in WDW.

Haven't they been doing major rennovations to the Poly the last few years??

RuthnPaul, that this true and is still ongoing today. They are doing one building at a time and they are sinking a great deal of money into the place.

Yep, we stayed at the Polynesian last October (FairyTale Package - LVC!) and they'd moved the Concierge Service to another building while spiffing up Hawaii. They're doing things like ripping up first floor cement to make sure there are no areas where moisture can gather. I highly doubt that they'd put $$$ into something they were going to tear down.

However, adding on a few DVC Longhouses - or even taking over a few existing ones for DVC - isn't totally unrealistic. Nah, they'd still have to gut the interiors to make 1 & 2 BR units. On the monorail, my money's on the CR.

I always think of the 'Brady Bunch' when we visit the Poly... you know... the Hawaii episodes... the 70's look.

My bet is also at the CR but remember that the monorail is a lot more than just the one near the MK.

There is a lot of monorail between the TTC and EPCOT but there is no infastructure in place there either. I still can't believe there won't be something someday along that line.

The only rumor I can totally discount on any of these boards is this one. The Poly will outlast us all. Its one of the most popular resorts at WDW and it is under going major refurbishing right now. We have stayed there twice and it was real hard joining the DVC knowing that we won't be staying there now, just visiting.....smjj

I agree with your point about this rumor having no way of happening.

We used to stay at the POLY all the time and I thought I would feel this way too but on our last trip there we had rooms down by the TTC and it made me feel like I wasn't even staying at the POLY. That plus my bill. It was Easter Vacation and that bill makes DVC look real good.

the sign for DVC is a island - not a island like Key west - but a volanic island like the Hawaii Island - so I had thought that the Polyn was the first choice when DVC branched out to the WDW resorts.

I came to the conclusion that there was a big "NO WAY" from either the management at WDW or the Polyn management.

Okay this is a lot to assume from the icon - but hey the islands had to represent something. It sure doesn't look like the Key West Islands....

Talking about an island: Discovery Island is sitting there unused. How would that be? Not on the monorail, but sure private.

Although a DVC resort at Discovery Island is a very appealing idea, I believe it's unrealistic in terms of construction costs and ongoing costs. It would cost substantially more to build than a resort on land because all construction materials, equipment, and workers would need to be loaded and unloaded from barges. And the resort would need its own, dedicated fire station and emergency services.

Why give up staying there. An occasional weekend will save you mucho points, it will also help with that Poly fix that you so need.

That's what I was thinking SoCalKDG! We've never stayed at the Poly or any of the deluxes for that matter but now that we've joined the DVC we know we'll be staying there at least once. It may not be the biggest value to stay on points but not everything is about value when it comes to WDW!! :p

Ummm, where do you get that two (or 3, depending) Snow capped mountains represent a volcano?

I think the logo represents the different options of travel.Palm trees for the tropics.Snow capped mountains for skiing, winter, northern resorts. Mickey ears for Disney parks,etc.,etc.

Oh ya. I'm sure they are doing all those renovations to the Poly just to tear it down.

I would think with the recent pipes bursting and flooding the Contemporary, that might be the one to get "renovated" into DVC
:earsboy:

We have never stayed at the Poly, but we did stop there a few times to have drinks poolside, and watched the Wishes fireworks show from the beach when we stayed at Wilderness Lodge.

I cant see them tearing down such a popular resort for DVC. Not gonna happen.

But - a DVC resort that had Monorail service would be great!
