I'm looking at booking a studio using our DVC points however when I look at the room types for accessibility there is one there called Deluxe Studio – Standard View, Florida Special Accessible Room with Option for Hearing Accessibility, does anyone know what the Florida Special means??

My husband has severe lung disease so we will have a scooter and probably an oxygen machine in the room also his bipap which is a little smaller. I'm curious if the Florida special accessible is smaller than the wheelchair accessible, we will need every inch we can get with the machines. This will probably be his last trip as his condition is progressing so I want to make it as comfortable as possible for him and our kids.

TIA!!

That 'Florida Special Accessible Room' is somewhat mysterious!

There are ADA definitions for accessible rooms.
One type is fully wheelchair accessible with raised seat toilet, grab bars by the toilet, a roll in shower with a seat and a sink that a guest can use from a wheelchair. There is a path wide enough for the guest to use a wheelchair to get from the room door to the bed and to the bathroom.
The other type has most of the same features to make it accessible, but has a tub with grab bars.

Florida has a 3rd type of accessible room, which has extra handrails near the toilet and tub, but doesn't have a raised seat toilet or the other features.

The basic space in the room is very similar, just arranged a little differently. The bathroom in the roll in shower rooms is slightly bigger to make space for the roll in shower. They 'get' that space by making the bedroom area slightly smaller. So, if he doesn't need the roll in shower, that room would not be a good choice.

Thank you. He doesn't need a roll in shower but does need a seat while showering. His heart rate skyrockets and O2 level drops dangerously low when he showers standing. Do do you happen to know if the non wheelchair accessible rooms have the seat or is it only the wheelchair accessible ones that have the seat?

The roll in shower rooms have a built in seat, usually flips down.
The others don't necessarily. If he wats a tub and a shower chair, it's best to rent a shower chair from one of the rental companies. They are listed in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, which is located near the top of this board or a link in my signature.

People have had variable luck at getting a portable shower chair from the resorts.
