We haven't been to Disney World before and are going to book 2 weeks - ideally at the Polynesian. I'm not overly worried about noise in the room - but will the whole resort/ pool/ beach likely be noisy and dusty? We will likely have some days just at the pool so don't want it to be too bad. Is the resort large enough that we may not be overly disturbed in the main part of the resort?

Grand Floridian isnt too much more - should we book there instead for a more peaceful stay?

While I would usually tell you to book The Grand, if you are concerned with construction, you might want to avoid booking there as well. Outer buildings are being renovated inside and out and construction will most likely continue for the foreseeable future. Some current construction photos HERE.

We just stayed at The Grand in August and swam in the pool, right next to and in view of, the building they were working on. It didn’t bother me personally, but if you want to avoid construction, I personally wouldn’t recommend booking either.

Good luck deciding.

FYI, this isn’t official but several folks have noted zero availability of main building GF rooms 5/14-9/3, which implies that is the potential timeline for main building room renovations. The Conch Key building is under renovation now and as they move to Sugarloaf, the main building, etc those areas are more “central” to the resort and may be bothersome for some. They may also renovate the lobby itself at some point, TBD.

Poly is a wide resort and the marina effectively makes a barrier between different sides. Personally I’m not worried about construction at all unless I had the Standard room category as that could put you looking at the construction site (if Disney intends to put people in those rooms). But otherwise for me the site is far enough away/off to the side enough that I’m not particularly worried. It’s possible that with your August timing construction at GF may be far more “in your face” than Poly.

Overall not the cleanest time to be staying at either and more unknowns than knowns at the moment, so just keep an open mind.

Personally I haven’t changed any of my Poly plans.

Assuming the construction at the Polynesian stays where the new buildings are going up, it should not at all affect the main portions of the Polynesian. To be safe I would avoid (or request to avoid) buildings Tuvalu, Fiji, Aotearoa and Tonga, which would be the closest to the construction site.

We are pool/marina view in April and this makes me feel better. I guess if most people saw construction as an issue the Poly would have availability and it doesn’t have much.
