Polynesian Resort Question…

My fellow Dis’ers, I have a Polynesian Resort question that I thought I would post here on the Resorts Board since you folks are so knowledgeable regarding that resort.

My family hasn’t stayed at the Polynesian yet, so I am not familiar with it. I am hoping you can help me with the following questions:

(1) Does the Polynesian Resort have a Private Dining department like the Grand Floridian has?

(2) What outdoor locations might be available for a private dinner?

(3) What indoor locations might be available for a private dinner?

I have seen a few photos of Sunset Point and the site looks lovely. I am curious as to whether or not it is available for a private dinner. I am not familiar with the beach area, but I would like to know whether or not there is an area there where a private dinner could be held. And does anyone know if the marina area would be suitable? There would only be seven people for dinner, so we don’t need a large area.

The time-frame that I am looking at is May, and thus I would like it to be outdoors as dusk falls (with a backup indoor location in case of inclement weather). I would appreciate any input that any of you have regarding the Polynesian Resort.

Janet

I cannot think of any "private" dining area at the Poly. You may want to give a call directly to the resort and see what kind of options they have for you. If you're willing to spend the money, I am sure they will do anything you want. I know that sunset point has been used for weddings, but I do not know if it's available for dinner. You may be able to have something arranged privately along one of the beaches. Best bet would be to call the resort directly and ask.

Good Luck

Your best bet would be to call the resort directly. If not available at one, maybe one of the other resorts can accommadate your needs.

Thanks, Copper68 and Walt'sFan, for the response. The AKL concierge put me in touch with someone this week, so I am hopeful that I'll have an answer soon. I was hoping that soneone here on the Dis had either held a private dinner outdoors at the Poly or had attended one. It's always nice to hear the opinions of the kind folks on this website.

I have never heard of the Polynesian having any such thing but if the GF has it than just walk right over and have dinner there.

Aloha

Hi Janet. Our rooms at the Poly always overlook Sunset Point, and I am pretty sure we have seen private dining there, as well as the plentiful weddings. Remember, many weddings there are really small--so it may be hard to tell what is a wedding and what is just two or three people there for dinner, but sometimes it didn't seem like a wedding, just a dinner or other "event".
Since I know you were served out on the dock at the GF, I thought I would mention that the Poly also has a small covered "room" at the end of the dock that could be used for a similar event. It is a bit larger however, so wouldn't seem as elegant as the GF dock did. One area I thought of: there is a path that goes through the area between Tahiti and the building behind it (towards the parking lot--is it Rapa Nui?). There are two paths that are headed towards the TTC. One goes to Tahiti's middle entance, and then on to the TTC, but the other one could easily be blocked off for a private dining event--it would be very private because the landscaping there is so tall that the whole path cannot be seen from the other paths, and it curves enough that one couldn't just peer down the path and see the diners either. It is very dark over there, and the torches are so romantic--I think this is the area of the resort that most seems like an island in Polynesia. (actually, I have never walked past the marina towards the luau area--there may also be places like that over there--?)
Another interesting place might be on the beach by Tahiti, but it woud be better to be on the Point, IMO. If I can think of anywhere else, I'll post again, I have to run now and pick dd up from school.

Chamonix, that is wonderful information.:sunny:

Wow, I second that! What wonderful information, Chamonix. Exactly what I was looking for. If you can think of anything further to add, I would love to hear it. Everyone here on the Dis is so helpful. Again, thank you very much. :D
