The Polynesian Volcano pool has been down to have some work done it (as some people have reported) This is their slow time so often maintenance is done. The pool is to be filled back up tomorrow (Jan 25) and opened back on the 26th. Also as someone mentioned guests from the Polynesian were being shuttled over to the GF pool while this one was closed. This was the info from the Polynesian.

Thanks for the information! I really hope it works out like this and that there are no delays in the work. We can't wait to stay there !!

This information came in 15 minutes ago and they don't believe there is any reason to delay it opening back up.

THANKS for the info, Steve. It sounded like a bigger, longer, job. I thought I read they were putting in a new pool deck, too??? Maybe that was incorrect.

OK, well. I will just relax and look forward to our March Poly stay. :sunny:

Yes the info going around was making it sound like a bigger job. There would be no need to redo the pool deck that is not even 5 years old yet. The Polynesian is calling this normal maintenance that occurs during slower times of the year and did not think there was anything that was going to keep it from opening back up tomorrow and it should be filled today.

Thanks, Tikiman, for the info. That clears things up a lot. I was a little worried they were going to screw up what I consider to be the best pool on Disney property. They certainly didn't need a new pool deck. It's huge. I can certainly understand shutting the pool down in the dead of winter a few days each year to keep it in tip top shape.

No problem. These sorts of maintenance things happen every year but now with trip reports people see something getting worked on and everyone starts to think it might be a major rehab and not just normal maintenance. I agree it would be nice to know (especially with a pool) but I don’t see Disney contacting everyone with a copy of their maintenance schedule and telling them what they are going to be working on when they are there. I know many other places I have stayed they have had notes when we check in about something being worked on. I don’t remember if anyone said they were told at check in but I know the Polynesian made arrangements for people to be allowed to shuttle over to the GF pool while it was being worked on, even with the other pool still open.

Incase anyone was interested the pool was back open today as planned.

Aloha

Steve

The pool was open all last week, but the slide was closed. When I jogged over to the GF, their pool was closed on Sunday.
I am happy to report that the staff must have listened to Tikiman, because I thought they all were fabulous.

Anyone know if the pool was closed Sun-Wed of this week? Our good friends are there now and they never mentioned that the pool was going to be closed so I hope they were not un-pleasantly surprised when they checked in......

It was opened on Sunday, but not the slide. Then completly closed Mon, tues & Wed. When we were leaving today the lifegaurd was cleaning it and the worked looked all done. We were bummed!! My kids were looking so forward to the Volcano slide!!

Might I ask what was wrong with the staff? :confused3

Thanks so much. I feel so bad for our friends. They return tonight so I will be anxious to see if everything worked out for them. Anyone know if this info on the pool being closed was posted anywhere? I work with my friend and she and I checked all the time for closure schedules etc and saw nothing about this....I am guessing if they knew it was going to be closed for most of their stay they would have chosen another resort. They have two young kids who were really excited for the volcano pool....what a disappointment! I know it's slow season and maybe even kind of cool for the pool but kids don't care. I think there's still an obligation to let guests know if it's going to be closed.

There was a notice in the room when we got there. I guess they really couldn't have contacted everyone who had a room booked during the week it was closed. I think it was great that they arranged for the guests to use the pool at the GF, even though we never did.

That is good to hear and I know they have been all working hard (even management) to improve on some of the complaints they have had lately. Not that all resorts don’t have complaints but lately I have been getting the impression that the Polynesian staff has been working hard to make things better. They pay attention to what people say and even check out what people in here say.

True, it would have been logistically impossible to contact everyone that had ressies while the pool was going to be closed. Honestly, if it were DH and I, it probably would not have mattered much, esp. since it's Jan and I likely would not swim anyway. But this was our friend's first trip to the Poly, we talked it up and I just hope they had a nice stay. Yes, it was good to arrange use of the GF pool, which is somewhat easy though not terribly convenient if you are all adults or have older kids....not so easy with a 2 and 5 year old. Oh well, hope they were having so much fun in the parks that the pool didn't matter....thanks for the information :)
