We have reservations for the Laua. We have a 5 and 6 year old. Is it worth the $$$$? Just wanted to know what to expect from it. It's hard to get a good idea from birnbaums or the web site.

I know many will not agree with me but I thought it was one of the most overpriced least valued experience going. I will say we went almost 6 years ago but personally, I would never go back or recommend.

You will probably get more responses (and more recent) on the restuarant board.

Enjoy your trip

I went years ago when they had the Mickey and Minnie Luau and we LOVED it! Don't think that I would enjoy just the regular one though, but I do know that when we went, the food was really good.

We booked the Luau in August. My dd, then 9, thought it was okay. Yes, I also think it is somewhat overpriced for what you are getting. But, and it's a big but, this is WDW. The show was pretty good. We had excellent seats and that contributed to our enjoyment. The food was barely passable. The pineapple bread and fresh pineapple chunks were my favorite. Having done it once, I don't think I would do it again. It also made a difference that we were staying at the Polynesian and didn't have to make a trek back to another resort!

I went once many years ago... I liked the show but thought the food was horrendous.. I do not know if they have changed their meal or not, maybe someone who has been recently could tell you what they had to eat. I was disappointed, and felt I have seen the show once, why see it again..

Our family went for my husband's birthday and we took our 6 year old grandson. He was so bored and hated the food. They brought him out a bowl of mac & cheese (quite expensive mac & cheese considering how much it cost him to go). He also laid his head down and went to sleep. We were, however, at the 9:30 show. Our first time there, about 10 years ago, the food was very good, but then the menu changed and the food has never been the same. I did hear that drinks are no longer included (use to serve a tropical drink/fruit punch)--but can't confirm that. The show has also changed over the years too. But have not been since the new stitch type show started. Personally I think the kids would like the HDD show much better. Hope someone will post some info for you regarding the new show.

I agree with InstImpres and Mackey Mouse. I saw the new show in May. While the dancers are entertaining and attractive, the food quality is poor. The food is bad enough to make the Luau not worth the price of admission. I wouldn't see the show again, nor would I recommend it to friends.

If you do decide to go, try to book the early show, as the performances can run to more than two hours. That will also give you a chance to grab dessert somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

Granted it is a different show now, but I took my 6 yo DD last December and when I asked her if she wanted to do it again... she said no, maybe some other time. There were parts of the show she loved - getting on stage, watching the fire, etc... but those were outweighed by the fact that she couldn't see a thing (no matter which seat she sat in, an adult from the table in front of us was blocking her view), she didn't like the food (I agree - that's some pretty expensive Mac and Cheese!), and it really was too long to hold her interest (and her attention span is pretty good for a 6 year old).

I've never been, but my SIL has and she thought it was just awful. She'll never go back. She's pretty level-headed about things, so I'm not making any plans to go....

I've gotta agree with the other posters. The food was bad, a real dissapointment. The show waspretty good but not worth the $$ when combined with the poor food.

Consider the HD instead. It was good corny fun and the food was better.

Jewelz -

I am feeling really badly that you leave in 16 days and we all slammed your PS. :( I don't know if you are now looking for other things to do or if you are giving it a try anyhow,

The flip side of the laua (not dinner though) as for best value at Disney is the Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill. $7/99 per person great character interaction

Just my two cents
If you are looking for other thoughts, please post or PM
Happy travels

We went to the Mickey's Luau in 97 and I was not impressed. We ended up on a table with another family and the mother had one of their kids in her lap and was right in front of me as the child was standing on her chair. When we mentioned it to a CM, they said something to the person and then she moved but the child was still in front of me and kept moving around. First sitting then kneeling, then standing again. I missed more than half the show and was very disappointed.
We complained again and the CM didn't do anything. There were plenty of seats at the back that were empty and we could have been moved to one of them, but were never offered the option.

After the show, we talked to the head CM and the only thing they offered was for me (alone) to come back the next night. This we couldn't do as we were leaving that morning. No other compensation was offered.

The food wasn't too bad and I am a very picky eater. But I said after the experience I had I would never do it again. I would pay the money for HDDR before I would do any luau again.
