Polynesian Is A Poly Wally Rip Off

We love the Poly and hope to stay there again some day.

That being said, the CMs are rather hit or miss. Some are outstanding, some are lacking.

I have also noticed that the Poly has bounced back and forth between a 3 and 4 diamond rating in the AAA guide in recent years (it is currently a 3). This along with the CMs would seem to indicate problems with the resort management (or management turnover).

I was also upset. I was told that I would have to pay $300 for the extra night during the Hurricane at the Poly. I was so upset I started to cry. I didnt have that much to pay since we weren't expecting to stay. I had to get a refund for the Saturday night and move off property since they told me i couldn't even move to a value or moderate resort. I was very disapointed in the way Disney treated us in the situation.

Mish, did you talk to the Polynesian or CRO? I called CRO on Saturday morning about extending our stay, either at the Poly or at another Disney resort, and they showed zero availability either at the Poly or anywhere else, except for some rack rate rooms at the Beach Club. CRO was offering nothing special to people stranded by the hurricane. But when we went and stood in line at the Poly front desk we were immediately extended at rate of $209/night, no questions, bargaining or problems at all. I was a bit on the verge of tears all morning too about the whole situation, but got no problems from the front desk. Sorry you had trouble with them :(

Kelly Nelly

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. Although I'm sure it happens now and then, but twice is a bit often. I would probably be unsatisfied also, but I would definately contact Disney and let them the specifics of your stay. I can only tell you that every experience I have ever had with Disney has been pleasent. Last year we stay L.V. concierge and evryone of the CM's were exceptional. I would hesitate to stay again.
Hopefully you experience the Magic that most of us seem to have enjoyed

Good luck..........................Walt'sFan.

After being eaten alive by fire ants in the Disney bus from TL I went to the front desk to ask what to put on the bites. They stared at me and said..."Oh my do we need to call 911?" Not rude, just stupid.

.

Not sure why this was a stupid response My girlfriend lost her mother to fire ants back in July. She lived in Florida and knew what to do, but it was still to late. Sounds to me like the CM knew how dangerous fire ants could be.

I love the Poly. Having said that, my experience there wasn't that great. We had a family of fools playing ball in the hallway at all hours of the night. They took their waste baskets and put them at the end of the hallway and were playing basketball (this was after the afternoon hockey/soccer game). I called over to the front desk to see if they could come by and ask these people to stop - it was midnight, afterall! They told me that the Poly was a very family friendly resort and I should expect that I would hear kids. I was, however, "more than welcome to try to find another room at another resort." That's exactly what I did. I went to check out - 5 days early - and the lady at the front desk never even asked why!

I would stay there again though. DH said he'd only stay there if it was concierge so he could have a "go to" person and not have to rely on the front desk. I would never stay at AKL again, not even concierge for the simple reason that I refuse to pay the same for a parking lot view as people are paying for a savannah view. I also got a general feel of not being welcomed at AKL (if that makes any sense).

We all have our points at which we decide to never stay there again. Sometimes it only takes one time and sometimes we decide to give it another go around. But, if after 2 tries you still don't like it, there's no point in forcing it. There are so many other places to choose from!

We just returned from the Poly a few weeks ago. While I liked the actual resort, I agree with the OP that the cast members at the front desk were not nice at all!

When we checked in, CM at the desk took forever to even acknowledge that we were standing there eventhough no one else was waiting to be helped. She was very short with us when she finally did acknowledge our presence and didn't even give us a welcome packet! This was our honeymoon no less and was noted on the reservation! Now I wasn't expecting any special treatment, but at the BC the CM at least recognized that we were on our honeymoon and was friendly.

Another issue I had with Poly staff is with housekeeping. My husband called housekeeping to request that our sheets be changed because I woke up with all the little red bites on my legs. Now I don't THINK they were there before I went to be, but in anycase I didn't want to take any chances and wanted the sheets changed. The CM went through twenty questions INCLUDING asking if they were there before I went to sleep before they agreed to have our sheets changed. I thought THAT was ridiculous. We weren't asking for anything free, we just wanted the dang sheets changed.

For what its worth, I agree with the original poster. The Poly needed some serious work when i was there about 9 mos ago.. the rooms were run down, the staff's hands were tied when trying to help (not nec. their fault), the buildings automatic doors were stuck open at night (so much for security), and there was a general feeling on "unkept" in the longhouses (room service trays laying around a long time, dusty dirty carpets).

I love the theme and the grounds, but to charge that kind of premium money they should bring it up to Disney cleanliness and unkeep standards ...

Interesting to see all the different views on the Poly.

In my view, from experience, I think the Poly is the most over rated and over priced resort of all the Delux. Sorry to all you Poly lovers. But from staying at some other Delux resorts I just dont think the Poly can compare to the way CM's treat you and the overall value that you get. Again, just my view. As others have said that is why Disney is a great place, it has such a diverse selection of unique places where you should find a place you really enjoy.

We were at the Poly for our Honeymoon from 9-12 to 9-19 and we couldn't have been happier. The CM at the front desk at check-in was super nice, even gave us a choice of rooms in our requested building (Tokelau) including a Lagoon view even though we had paid for a standard garden view. Mouskeeping was great, clean sheets and super clean bathrooms every day. They even came earlier in the day so when we came back from the parks in the early afternoon our room was already clean. We did have a noisy neighbor move in next door at the end of our week but it is a hotel after all not a private residence. I guess different people come into contact with different CM's and it can affect your stay, but every one we met was super friendly and nice.

Jen D, I spoke with both and they told me they were not offering any discounts. I even called the front desk and was put on hold and was told $300.00. Believe me I was willing to pay just not that much.

We stayed at the Poly in 2001 for my 25th anniversary. The CM were great. Mousekeeping was fine. All in all we had a good time and the Poly was an upgrade from Port Orleans.

We're staying there before our cruise at the end of this month. I hope the CM have a better attitude cause I really liked staying there.:(

We once stayed at one...St. Pete's Beach! Walked into the room and the carpet "Squished" from water buildup. Great feeling when one is wearing sandals. We were "Outta There" in about 30 minutes...man at the desk had no problem refunding the $...the only wait for the refund was the time it took him to open the register.

I think you're being a little to harsh in your judgement regarding the Polynesian. We've stayed 11 times and can't wait to go back!

Granted, it is one of the older resorts(one of the originals)but therein lies it's charm. "This is Disney at it's best"...they came up with this theme over 30 years ago and it has prospered ever since. How about location: monorail, boat, ticket & transportation center...all within walking distance.

From our perspective it doesn't get any better than this!!!

Okay...to say Poly is old...HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE NOT SO CONTEMPORARY??

And to comment on Kelly Nelly....REQUESTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED. That's why you unfortunately got a smoking room even though you requested a non smoking. Next time, let Central Reservations know it is for medical reasons, only then is it a guaranteed non smoking.

I have followed this thread with amusement.

The OP has every right to voice his displeasure and opinion with his POLY experience.

Most of us have had good, great, exceptional, and poor treatment at WDW resorts. Many have pointed out this fact on this thread.

Many of us have the stayed at most of the WDW resorts in all categories. I have stayed at and will continue to stay at the POLY and ALL other WDW resorts.

What the OP took liberties with saying was...

"I now feel that you must be off your rocker to stay at this resort over the Grand Floridian, WL, AKL, BW, BC, YC, FW etc."

The OP has NO RIGHT to say that anyone that chooses the POLY is "Off Their Rocker" This is a Personal Attack, and is against DIS Board Policy and has no business on the DIS!

When you shell out big bucks to stay at a deluxe resort, you expect to be treated in certain ways by CM's that are courteous and knowledgable. This should happen at all wdw resorts. It is unfortunate that this did not happen on your vacation. I would not expect this type of treatment everytime you go the Polynesian, otherwise no one would stay there. Disney wants everyone to have a magical vacation so they return again and again. If you were sent an online questionaire after your stay from Disney, they ask you if you had any extra magical treatment from any CM's while you were there - or if you witnessed anyone else dealing with a CM that went the extra mile. Disney knows that you have choices when you go to the Orlando area on vacation and they want you spending your $ at disney, so they want to make your vacation magical. I think you should email disney and let them know how you feel.

Having read post after post....after post.... and thread after thread about how negative, rude, non caring the CMs are at the Polynesian, I think it has reached the point where it's no longer a coincidence that SO MANY folks are having bad experiences there.

The resort needs some better management. New CMs, better training on customer service.....

I know there are tons of people who are having a wonderful time there. And that's GREAT because that's the way it should be for them. But for gosh sakes.......These stories are unacceptable. And there are SO MANY of them!

I'm in customer service, and I'd be out of a job within 10 seconds if I treated my customers that way.

Jen D, I spoke with both and they told me they were not offering any discounts. I even called the front desk and was put on hold and was told $300.00. Believe me I was willing to pay just not that much.

I am so sorry they didn't help you. I feel bad we were extended at the rate and you were not! There was a lot of chaos Saturday morning but I'm sorry you were forced to check out. I called CRO, and that almost had me in tears, and I called the Polynesian front desk, and the guy who answered was brusque and vague, wouldn't tell me my options, just said "come on up and we'll extend you" and then hung up. (This was my only bad CM experience and you've gotta figure he had a lot going on.) So we got the kids, I put the baby in the sling and we decided to go directly to the front desk to see them face to face and see what could be done. This was about 10:30am. We were all prepared to have to tell our sad story and negogiate but had barely begun when we were extended at $209. I just feel awful for your family that you weren't given the same help.

I have to agree that calling those on these boards who love & enjoy the Poly "off their rocker" is uncalled for. More to the point would be to say that those in charge at WDW are off their rocker for allowing the poor performance of the CM's that so many seem to have found there to continue. There is no excuse for those type of attitudes. I've visited the Poly several times but never stayed--enjoy the Epcot resort area more if I'm staying at a deluxe resort. Sorry about the poor service you received there!

Is it possible to leave the moderating to the moderators?

Some people like certain resorts, some don't. I like having ALL the info, not just what agrees with my opinion.

I appreciate all the info this thread has provided but not so much the bickering, judging and ALL the snide remarks. :earseek:

Try to have a nice day.

:D
