I have just booked 7 nights there in June. I have always wanted to stay at the Polynesian, but have been hesitant because the resort is older. If you have stayed there recently, I would love to hear about it. Are the rooms revovated or does it look very old? How are the food offerings in the concierge lounge?

Thanks in advance!

disneyluvr2002-

We stayed at Poly concierge this past Dec. After a number of trips to Disney the past few years, I never really had a desire to stay there. We had the best trip! I will admit that when you take the monorail and see the Poly, the brown buildings have that dated look. Once on the property, it is a totally different feel. The pool is great. The Ceremonial house has an incredibly tropical feel to it and the resort has a really nice atmosphere.

I'm not too keen on the decor of the rooms. I'm not really impressed w/ any Disney deluxe interiors but I'm used to it at this point. We loved the concierge lounge just to be able to get water bottles, coffee and snacks whenever we wanted. The food offerings are OK (it's much better at the GF concierge) but we didn't go into it assuming we were going to make meals out of the concierge service (other than breakfast) so for our purposes it was great. The concierge staff accomodated all of our requests.

The Polynesian will definately be a repeat resort for us!

Hope this helps.

We stayed Concierge at the Poly last June and are going back this June. I am one of those people who love the Poly. If you are staying LV , there is no better view of the castle, actually the beach has a wonderful view as well. You can see pictures of the resort, including the rooms and concierge, on tikiman's site on homestead.com .
He even has the menu for concierge for evenings.
The Poly is soooooo relaxing with its tropical plants and the music playing throughout the resort. My daughter loved the Volcano pool , playing in the sand on the beach ,and the swings and hamocks on the beach.
Go check out Tikimans site it will probably tell you everything you want to know and then some.
Have a great trip!

We were there in June 2000 and for 3 nights last December, both garden view concierge. We loved it! The room is the thing we see the least of, so I actually don't pay much attention to it. Even when I was stuck in the room with a napping youngest child, it was fine for me. And the perks of concierge can't be beat if you have kids--the water bottles, soda and fridge in the room ($10 per night in a non-concierge room) make up for the price, plus breakfasts and the occasional meal. Yes, breakfast isn't hot and steaming, but my family can easily fill up on cereal, rolls, muffins, juice, etc.
Saving our DVC points on the weekend days this July with 2 more days at the Poly, this time LV concierge--and one day is my BDay!

I think you will love it! We stayed there in September and were thrilled. As a person who stayed in the GF twice, I used to wonder why people would pay so close in price to stay in a brown building?

Once you are ON the property you don't really see the brown buildings the same way you do from afar. If you enjoy the tropical theme, great hospitality and a FABULOUS view, you picked the right place.

The food offerings were great: cont. breakfast, beverages to drink in or take out all day long, snacks in afternoon, fabulous cookies, finger foods every evening that included egg roles, won tons, cheese, lo mein, mahi mahi, veggies + dip. Evenings had wine, cordials and fabulous desserts.

The rooms were fine. They seemed SOOO much bigger than when we stayed at the WL. Being a non-smoker now, the balcony didn't hold it's awe as it once did for me.

The only complaint I had was when in the lobby I smelled mold and it bothers my sinuses. I've read other people who experienced this in their rooms, but we did not.

We were just there in March and I want to ditto everything said so far. Just a great time was had by all in our party. The staff was VERY eager to make our stay just as MAGICAL as it could possibly be. Sure the place has a little wear, it's 30 years old. I thought of it as character, not at all distracting. And that smell that everyone talks about. I think it was more of a very slight smokey-spicey scent. If there was one complaint it would have to be when they light the TIKI torches they turn the gas on and then go around lighting them so there were at times a VERY strong Natural gas smell. You will have a great time. Enjoy.

You should check out tikiman's poly site! There are alot of pictures and inside info, its almost as good as being there! Just search under "tikiman":)

We stayed there last month. The food is ok. The rooms still look the same as they did for a couple of years now. The building is great cause its centrally located around everything. For the food, in the morning they have fruit and cereal, lunch: sandwiches, candy, drinks, dinner: more like small snacks.
