Can someone help me on tipping for Concierge. My mom and I will be staying at the Polynesian Concierge in two weeks and this will be a first for us. So far the only thing Concierge has done for me is book a dinner reservation. I know when I am there I am not going to be needing services like reservations or anything like that. But I don't know if tipping is still expected. And what about housekeeping. How much should we leave daily. I want to start an envelope for tipping right now. We have been staying at our vacation club resort and tip during trash and towel day and when we leave.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

When we stayed at the GF RPC back in Dec 2004 Tim the manager went above and beyond our expectations as there were several problems. After all that was said and done we tried to give him a tip and we were advised that the concierge personnel are not allowed to accept tips and that they could lose their jobs if they did. He was very nice about it and told us in away that would not offend us. We apologized and we told Tim that we were unaware of this and we hoped that we did not put him in an awkward position. I don't know if things have changed since then but we have never tried to tip again as we would feel extremely horrible if someone were to lose their job on account of us.

As far as mousekeeping, we generally tip $5.00 every day but it is up to you on what you would like to leave. We tip daily as the mousekeepers change all the time. I have read on other threads that the tip amount ranges anywhere to $2-5 and some a little more.

HAVE A MAGICAL TRIP:wizard: :dance3:

When it comes to tipping the Cast Members who would be working at the Hawaii Longhouse, that you can not do because they could be fired for accpeting money. What you can do is get them gifts, however I think the value of them can be no more then $75.00 or somewhere around that dollar amount.

I did not know this because there are some CM's that we come in contact with that deserve to be recognized/rewarded for the great jobs that they do. I will definitely remember the gift idea for when we go down this April.Thanks:thumbsup2

The other posters gave you the correct advice about the Lounge Staff. Some people give the IPO staff a gift if they have been very helpful (above and beyond). I usually give the IPO staff a box of candy. In your situation it is really not necessary.

Thank you for the replies. I also never knew that they cannot take tips. Too bad since I am sure many times they go above and beyond the call of duty. A gift is a good idea too. I will look out for something while at Disney. I am having a terrible time to think of what to get a woman who works at the Pearl Factory at Downtown Disney (the small booth by the water). We see her on every trip and want to give her a x-mas present.

Thank you to all for your responses.

Just curious about something. How do you give the IPO Cast Members a gift, if you never see them? Because the staff who work at the Resorts on each Club Level floor or building are not the IPO Cast Members.

I don't know what your budget is but you can get her a Lenox vase or frame (they range in sizes and prices). Lenox also makes nice Christmas ornaments or something along those lines is a nice gift for Christmas. It doesn't necessarily have to be Lenox. Go to your local card or Hallmark store as they might have something there that you might like to give her.

In my experience, a commendation is better than trying to give them a gift or money because CMs receive pay raises based on positive feedback from guests and exceptional job performance. If a Concierge Level CM performs above and beyond the norm, write or email the General Manager of the resort to let them know.

I agree, they say that a mgr will always hear about the neg's but not often the positive. I always try to leave positive feedback for someone who was great!!! I figure a pay raise would mean more than a gift after all that's what really adds up.

Thank you. I am not the OP, but this is good info to know! I'd never really have thought about it! I'm thinking of staying at the Poly Concierge in September, and I'll be glad for this information!

Some leave the gift at the main reception desk and some leave the gift with the CMs in the Lounge with instructions to give it to the IPO staff. I always attach a card addressed to the IPO Staff.
