Polynesian Bungalow Room Review

Thanks for the detailed report. And I love the pictures. I've been looking for an oval dining room table and having a hard time explaining it to my husband, what exactly I wanted & why. Now I can show him this picture to get a general idea. :)

Great review, even if I'll never stay there one can still dream. What do you think about the "pool".
the "plunge pool" at the back deck of the bungalow or the other pools?

When you posted your reply, I thought about the dining room table and our dining experience in the bungalow. The dining room area was great, we had room service for 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there and there was plenty of room at the table for everyone. The table was big enough for our 6 guests plus more. One night, we got the Ohana Feast delivered to the room which was an extraordinary amount of food. There was plenty of room at the table as well as in the kitchen for "the feast"

Thanks for this detailed review and photos. I just today booked 3 nights in a Bungalow for January. I'm still on the fence about keeping the reservation or cancelling it. Will look forward to more feedback from others who stay there. I do wish they had two beds in the second bedroom like the dedicated two bedrooms.

I'm tempted someday to book a bungalow. That being said, it would pain me to use all my current years points for 3-4 days in a bungalow. I would much rather have 30 days in a studio, or two weeks in a 2bd... All at resorts where I can walk to the parks.

Sigh. First world problems.

How is the teeny tiny plunge pool. Do they change the water between guests

At least it is better than this

I want to see other feedback too.
I have a feeling that the plunge pool s won't see much use, an unheated cold water tub, more show than go.

:earsboy: Bill
It was nice in the middle of the day but too cold at night, at least when we were there in late May. Maybe in the dead of summer it would be OK at night. A poster questioned if the water was changed after each stay, I doubt it. It is allot of water. There is at least a recirculating pump, possibly a filter.

Thanks for the wonderful, detailed post and the beautiful photos! We had been planning a big vacation for my parents' 50th anniversary. We were going to spend 10 nights at a grand villa at Aulani. Long story short, that didn't work out. So we found ourselves sitting on a huge pile of points, so we decided to book a week stay in the bungalows for September! Very, very excited and even more so now after seeing your posting.

One thing that you wrote has me concerned... You said that the kitchen storage was limited. We typically do a good amount of cooking in our villa: most if not all breakfasts, at least a couple of dinners and a lunch or two. Based on what you saw, do you think we will have a problem?

Limited, but manageable. You will have to reorganize the cabinets and consolidate the DVC stuff to make room for dry goods. The fridge and freezer are awesome and large so there won't be any problem there. Although it may not be ideal, there is a good sized hall closet that you could also use for storage. I think you'll be fine. BTW, that is just the type of vacation perfect for the Bungalows, a week of R&R.

Thank you for the detailed report. I had no idea that these were open until the files magazine came today. Unfortunately, we can't stay at the bungalows but maybe we could look one day and dream.

I went hunting for a report about the bungalows and found yours. Such great detail -- thanks for taking the time to write it.

My interest in finding a report about the bungalows is because I just stayed at a TPV room in the Conch Key building at the Grand Floridian. The sound of the horn from the MK transport boat was so LOUD in my room that I'm kicking myself for not asking to switch rooms. I paid top dollar as I made my reservations only four days before the trip. I was wondering how loud the boat horns are in the bungalows, but I guess you're saying not so bad. I wonder if the glass on the bungalows is any thicker than at GF.

You could definitely hear the boat horns, especially the 2 big ferry going back and forth from TTC to MK. The other horns are not as loud. The glass at the Bungalows is 9/16" laminated impact which means 2 layers of glass with a laminated clear inner layer. I don't know what type of glazing system is in the GF. Also, the GF is much further away from the MK ferry than the Poly. Both resorts have smaller boats going to and from the resorts.

I didn't even think about the ferry boats from TTC. The ones that drove me crazy were the transports that do the MK - GF - Poly route. I've been searching for other reviews of people in bungalows or Conch Key at GF and I'm starting to think no one else was bothered by the horns. I wrote a letter to GF after my stay and figured they'd put it in the Another Complaint About the Horns pile, but maybe it's not as prevalent as I thought.

I wonder how the thickness of the glass compares. I have no idea what it is at GF.

I realize I am way :offtopic: but thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

Very detailed, and you or someone obvious has a builders background with the details. I am glad that there are people enjoying these wonderful rooms. When they were first announced the negative comments on who wants to waste that many points, and no will ever stay there and the drain on the studio. Well as you said there is limited availability for the next 6months, and hopefully it stays like that.
There is different levels for all.
Look forward to your next detailed report, you do a great job.

Thanks very much and yes, I'm a GC (a good one so no flames). So far, I've stayed at BW (home resort), OKW, SS, AK, BC, Vero, BLT and WL. In my humble opinion, the Bungalows are a clear #1 in quality, originality, design, electronics and appliances with BLT just behind it. I have not stayed at GF so I cannot comment on those rooms. It seems to me that DVC pulled out the stops with the Bungalows, probably because they are so unique and different. I could be wrong but I see the Bungalows as DVC's top of the line rooms (not necessarily resort).

Oh yes I was also bothered by those same horns-so much so that I am really reluctant to stay at the Grand Floridian again!! These complaints now being discussed about the Ferry Boats brings back those memories (from 2010) and makes me leery of staying at PVB even though I think it is a beautiful resort.
