Just want to say thanks to everyone who steered me toward the poly and answered my ?'s. It was amazing.

We were in Tokelau in 3913 awesome view of the lagoon, grand floridian, the beach and the castle. It was great especially at a garden view price.

Anyone have any questions while the poly is fresh on my mind.

PS Tikiman's site was great !!!

We just got back too......we were in the Hawaii bldg and right out the door was where you were staying. I thought those rooms looked like they had great views !!

I miss it already.......;)

What is your opinion of the people who say the Poly is dated or a little too dark? We are deciding between the Poly and the WL, so I'm looking for as much opinion as I can. We have 2 boys, 7 and 9, who would get a kick out of the monorail-is there a great view where you can also see the monorail come and go? I'd rather not stare at a parking lot the whole time, so I'd like a great view but also have the boys see the monorail. Lastly, what do you think of the pool? Hasn't it been recently renovated?

Do all the rooms at the Poly sleep 5? If not, which one's have the great view's?

Thanks!

DAHESS

There really is not a view of the Parking lot at the Poly. It is one of the first resorts so the design has the Walt touch. Yes it is dark but that is the way the islands that are not the Carribbean are decorated.
I am glad you liked the Tokelau building it is my families favorite. We have stayed in the rooms at that end of the building every time we go. We have gotten to be friendly with Rhonda the mousekeeper at the resort. She is wonderful. I have teens now and she still looked for a way to make them smile when we come back to our room. She had bunnies ears all over the bathroom made out of the wash clothes one day. It was funny. Maybe they were supposed to be mouse ears but they looked like bunnies to us. My son used to have this ratty old bunny when he was small and she remembed it. When my DD turned 17 she had a cake sent to our room.
The Poly is our fav and we won't be going this summer sigh :( but I hope to go back next summer. When the kids get to college age it is hard to find time to go together. I wish i could find some Poly music somewhere. I would love to have that playing at the grduation party I am having in June. DD would be thrilled. We have purchased lots of Tiki tourches not as ood as the poly but the best I can do in NJ. I am potting paln trees to place around the patio. We are sort of crazy but we will miss the poly so much this summer. It is the first time in 16 years we won't be spending any time in DW in the summer.

jmarie,

If you mean a "monorail view" from your room, ask for Rarotonga (non-smoking) or Aoteroa (smoking) longhouses and specify a monorail view (south side, ideally second floor). You will be also viewing the parking lot but it is so well landscaped you probably won't mind it. But the best view of the monorail is to ride it! If you're staying at the Polynesian, you can do that as much as you like!

Another thing your boys would enjoy: ask the CM if you can sit up front with the driver! If nobody else is yet there, they'll usually say yes (maximum of 4). Slow times are the best bet. The best way to arrange this is to go to the Epcot monorail at TTC. If you don't get to sit up front on the first one, just wait and you'll be first in line for the next one (10-15 minutes).

One of the pools was recently renovated and it is nice landscaped with a "volcano", a new slide, and a zero-entry portion.

dahess, All the rooms sleep five with two queen beds and a day bed.

erikthewise,

Actually Aotearoa is not smoking, but those are the two longhouses that would have a view of the monorail.

Micheme

Welcome back. 3913!!! you got a great view for the garden view price. Lucky you. I would love to hear more about what you thought of the resort.

jmarie - i didn't think the poly was dark at all, quite the contrary it was lush and beautiful. Between the lovely waterfall gardens in the lobby to the lovely bamboo tress and tiki men statues it was exactely what i thought a polynesian island would look like.
Hubby - said, hey this is what hawaii probably looks like !!

Monorail - hmmmm i'll have to pass this along to tikiman, not sure there was one building under renovation while we were there, the one just near the laua cove, i think that building might have given you a view.

Pool was awesome, hubby went down the slide with all the other kids. !!!

Tikiman - i absolutely loved it. It was beautiful, exotic and real escape. We really felt we were transported to the island everytime we went back to the hotel, like being in a whole different world. It was great after a long day in the parks to walk into the lush gardens and atmosphere.
The room was amazing, we stayed at the CBR last year and now it is nothing but deluxe for hubby. The monorail was so convienent and i loved taking the boats here and there. You can also walk to Grand Floridan, it is like a 5 min walk.
Loved it loved it loved it !!!

Hi Micheme:

Glad you liked it as much as the rest of us.

We just got back from the last week at the Hawaii building, we love it too. I can't describe how much we just are taken with the whole poly resort, I wish our dollar was equal to the american so we could go there more often.

First time in concierge for us, loved it too, but we will be back to room only next visit, which is nice too, this was an all time celebration of our 25th anniv with our children.

How about the baby ducklings, cute. Just love all the plants, trees, tiki torches, and we also did the walk to the gf.

Deb.

Hi I am doing a dozen things at once, meant to say the last week of April and it was HOT>

Deb.

We have had 25 wonderful vacations at the Poly and do not find it dark in the least. It is simply wonderful.

Disneydenise...I think News from Civilization has CDs of music from Hawaii. Perhaps you could call the Poly and order one. Congratulations to your daughter!

Micheme--Did the bathroom in your room have double sinks or a single sink?

Thanks!

Glad you had a great time. DH and I have always stayed at WL and have been thinking about trying Poly. Sounds like you would reccommend it.

We are going in June and requested the Tahiti bldg. because I read that it is near the beach and the TTC. However, I am now wondering because it is farther from the main bldg. and monorail. What is your opinion of which building has the best location and view? Thanks.

rgoble5972 - we had a single sink but there was lots of counter space. We also used a tip from the tip board and used one of those hanging fabric compartments things and hung it on the door which allowed more space.

Pitter - hard question, check out tikiman's site for a map here is the site http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html

i guess it would depend what room rate you take and what is important to you.

We were in Tokelau and that is right beside Tahiti, the longhouses are close together so i would say the walk isn't too bad. TTC is about 5 min away.

We also just got back from our first trip to the Poly. All I can say is wow. This is by far now my favorite resort. I didn't find it to be dark at all. When were you there? We had, if I remember right, 3914, last room in the building. We had an awsome view at a garden view rate. We loved the baby ducks. My daughter loved how they came on our patio every morning. Did you see the duck with one leg? He was our favorite. I have to also thank everyone, especially tikiman, for their recommendations on rooms. I couldn't have been happier. Got exactly what I had requested. Now, being a DVC member, I have to figure out how I am going to justify spending all those points to stay at the poly vs. half the amount of points at a DVC resort.
