Poly Village versus Poly Towers

For those that have stayed in both.............which do you prefer?

We're not DVC owners but we do rent DVC points for all of our stays. We absolutely love the Polynesian Village but are hesitant to try the Polynesian Towers.

Thoughts?

What type of DVC would you want to stay in at the Polynesian Island Tower since the village is all Deluxe Studios with the exemption of the 2 Bedroom Bungalows?

Well that might open up the new Island Tower Duo Studio for you. They have (1) Queen Murphy bed just like the Riviera Tower Studios at a lower price point than any of the other DVC units at the Poly.

We stayed in a duo studio last month. We loved the tower and Wailulu Bar & Grill. The room was gorgeous and had plenty of storage, much roomier than the tower studios. The food at Wailulu was really good and we liked sitting outside in the covered area. We didn’t like having to go to the GCH for breakfast, it was incredibly chaotic absorbing all the additional guests from the tower.

DH doesn’t really care for the long houses but he did like the tower and would stay there again although not for an entire trip because of the crowds.

We were wondering if the restaurants at the Poly Villages were going to be more crowded to accommodate the overflow from the Towers.

I loved the Tower! I honestly didn’t like when I stayed in a regular water view room before the tower existed. I got to stay one night for free when I got married at Disney and even free I wasn’t a fan. I don’t like the outer buildings separate from the main building in case it’s raining it’s a pain to get to food and things. Found the elevators super small and slow and the view of the pool really noisy.

We just had a trip in the tower in a two bedroom villa. I loved everything about the room and our view of the fireworks every night was fantastic. Room was also really well insulated it seemed really quiet. Staying in the tower made the Polynesian my favorite hotel on property when it was originally in the never stay again category.

Which pool you are facing makes a huge difference I find. Lava pool is way way noisier because that's where they have the games and activities. Oasis pool side of Samoa is much much quieter. We had a room on that side on our last non CL stay and liked it.

I have a duo studio in the tower booked for July 4th weekend to see what it's like.

The issue with the elevators in the original (8) longhouses are constrained since the elevators and the building structure were designed in the late 1960s and built in 1970-1971. The DVC longhouses were built in 1978 (1) and the final (2) longhouses built in 1985. The same issue with the original (8) longhouses causes the Contemporary Garden Wing elevators to be small.

These 3 longhouses were converted to DVC since they were the newest buildings and all units had a balcony or patio. The original longhouse structures did not allow for a balcony to be retrofitted on the 2nd floors. This is also why the Contemporary Garden Wings don't have balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms.

I'm not a Poly Island Tower hater - there are some things I don't love about its addition to the resort, but on the whole I'm OK with it and think it has a rightful place for consideration. No doubt the lagoon side views are pretty incredible (from most rooms). But I do find myself preferring the legacy side of the resort - the torches, the quiet walkways, the simpler vibe. It's more of what drew me to the Poly in the first place, vs what the Tower provides.

I just stayed in a duo studio in the tower this week and it was so nice! I wasn’t in my room much as it was a short trip but I will definitely be back and spend more time at the resort. Highly recommend those rooms if it’s just two of you.

Many thanks for all the replies! I think we will stick with the original Polynesian longhouses. Maybe try the Towers sometimes in the future.

Someday when we can return, we will book an original Poly room, just a lot of memories that we don't want to give up, and it is only two of us.

We stayed over at GF and found ourselves walking over every night. It was a wonderful experience.

How was the mattress? Was it the thicker (normal) mattress that the Tower Studio has or was it the slightly thinner mattress the murphys in the regular studios have?

It was thinner than the tower studio bed. It wasn’t bad, but it was only a couple of weeks old. We both preferred the tower studio mattress.

We got to try it for the first time last week, and were slightly disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful, especially sitting outside. But the service and food were so slow, and our meals were just OK. We were so looking forward to trying it, and perhaps our expectations were too high, but it was not one of the better meals on our trip. I hope I can convince my spouse to give it a try again in the future to see if we like it better.
