I am planning on being at the POLY Dec 31 to watch the EWP (9 pm I think)and Wishes (8:30 pm I think). Can anyone tell me when and where at the POLY the torch lighting ceremony would take place on this evening? Or what time it usually takes place?

From allears:

The grounds of this resort are so beautiful, especially in the evening when the tiki torches are lit. What? You didn't know they held a torch lighting ceremony some nights at the Polynesian? It's a short Polynesian ceremony that welcomes the night, with an authentic Polynesian dancer performing a traditional fire-knife dance, and lighting the torches leading into the resort's Great Ceremonial House. Check with the Guest Services desk for the time.

Any info. would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Suzy

I never knew they did this ceremony. However all the lights start attempting to be lit about 30 minutes before dark. I would assume that the ceremony would be just before that time.

It was either at 5PM or 6PM (I will check later with DD who has a photographic memory). We were walking into the lower level of the Poly resort and asked if we wanted to be the Torch Lighting Family. So we stood there, and led the (small) group of people who came to watch the ceremony and they did a pretty cool torch lighting deal. Good pictures :)

It was 6:00 p.m. Tues through Sat when we were last there in Feb. It's a short ceremony but neat to watch.

Grrr...wouldn't you know we are staying at the Poly on a Sunday and Monday so we won't be there for it! We have a 5:00 ADR at 'Ohana on the Saturday though, maybe we will be done in time?

Having been "in" the Torch Lighting Ceremony, missing it would NOT ruin my vacation. It would not even get a "Grrr" out of me. Or even a ho hum. It's nothing special.

Good to know :rotfl:

All the torch lighting ceremony consists of is one of the drummers and fire dancers from SoA doing a short couple of dances. It's OK, but nothing to change your plans for.

I dunno know about anyone else but two very happily married females (me being one of them), LOVED the short ceremony. It was at 6:00 and well worth the 5 minutes it took for some extremely good eye candy. Yeah, we had to return to our "old" husbands but we appreciated the break. A little Disney fantasy and magic. The husbands stayed upstairs in the lounge and talked baseball.
