We are staying in the Poly and know I can take a boat from the Poly to the MK. I do not want to use the monorail (got stuck on it once, really high in the air and said I wouldn't go on it again, and I haven't). Where are the buses at the Poly for the other parks? I know TTC is close, will that be convenient to get to other resorts for a dinner? Thanks

Unless the monorail isnt running the only way to Epcot from the Poly on Disney transportation is by monorail. I think you can drive to Epcot from the Poly if you have a car.

As far as getting to other resorts, the best way is to switch busses at a theme park or drive/take a $10-20 cab ride depending on which resort you are going to. For the GF I think the boats stop there on the way to the MK and back or you can walk there and for CR you can boat to MK and walk to CR from there.

There are direct buses from the Poly to AK and DHS. In order to get to Epcot without the monorail, you'll need to take the bus to DHS and then walk or take the boat to epcot - allow 90 minutes.

In order to get to other resorts, you'll need to transfer at a park - There are no resort buses at the TTC.

If we walk to the ttc, there are not buses to Epcot? Wow, I had no idea. I really don't think I should take a chance with the monorails. They have been breaking down lately and I would not want to be stuck in them, especially when they are sooo crowded, like they usually are.

Unless the monorail is down, there won't be a bus to Epcot from the TTC.

Busses breakdown too. I mean yes the monorails are breaking down more often, but its still not like they are down every day. I understand though about the fear of heights.

Just be prepared for it to take over an hour to get to Epcot every time you go. If Epcot isn't big on your list it shouldn't be a huge problem, but if you plan to visit a lot during your stay you might want to think about picking a different resort. The Poly is great, but if you have issues with monorail transportation, there are other really nice deluxes off the monorail system that you might want to consider where you won't be paying a premium for that monorail access. You can walk or boat to Epcot and DHS from BC/YC/BWI and you will have busses to take you to MK and AK. Alternatively you could stay at the Poly and hope for the monorail system to shut down while you are there so Disney has to replace it with busses.

I thought the same thing. Not to sound rude, but why stay at a monorail resort if you won't use the monorail?

We are staying at the Poly we have always wanted to try it and really do love the resort. I like the idea of having the boat that goes to the MK. I know boats and buses can break down and I can handle that but I get claustrophobic when stuck in the monorail. Maybe I should consider staying at the BC or BWI, since transportation might be an issue. Thanks for the input. If you are not claustrophobic, it's hard to understand it and I know for a fact that people have been stuck on the monorail for up to an hour. :scared1:

No I get it. I was stuck once on a subway for 30 minutes and I almost had a panic attack. If you want the Poly stay there for sure, just know that getting to Epcot will be a struggle if you don't have a rental car...

Thanks for the info. I will consider it. We can stay at BC or BWI also, which I am considering. We won't have a rental. I appreciate the input.

Remember too if the weather is inclement the boat and/or ferry won't be running and the monorail might be your only option.

You will enjoy the BC you can take the bus to theMK and walk into Epcot and even the Studio if you choose.

Thanks everyone. I am probably going to change our resort to BC, perhaps BWI, it will also be $500 less then the Poly. Thanks for your help.

I think an Epcot-area resort will suit your needs nicely. I've stayed at the YC and absolutely loved it. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat if I could get a good deal (when I stayed there, they had a buy 4 nights, get 3 free deal going on).

I would absolutely NOT stay at GF or Poly if I had no intention of using the monorail. It's simply too difficult to get to Epcot. From Contemporary, you can walk to MK and grab a bus to anywhere from there.

The BWI is our favorite resort. It is so great to be able to walk to both Epcot and the Studios. If you plan on staying at the MK for fireworks be sure to let the crowds storm out of the park before you proceed to the bus stop. If you wait about 30 minutes or more (shop, window shop, eat, etc.) the bus area will be very peaceful and you will have a nice ride back to your resort.

If the Poly is your dream resort, how about budgeting for a cab ride to/from Epcot? If you spend a lot of time in the Magic Kingdom I think that is what you should do. The bus rides from the boardwalk area to MK and AK can be very long.

If its too windy they will not run the smaller boats.

If the Poly is where you would love to stay I would take a cab to Epcot.

It would be the most effiecent way. Otherwise as others have said it will take you 90 minutes to 2 hours to get there if you have to take a bus to another park and then transfer to another resort bus..travel to that resort and wait to catch a Epcot bus. Not worth wasting nearly 4 hours just in roundtrip travel to Epcot. So I would take a cab.

Thanks for all the great advice, that I considered. We are going to stay at the Beach Club. Since we are going in Sept, we aren't going to do commando and my husband doesn't like to spend all day at the parks (we go every year and he gets tired of it). With the BC, we will have a great pool for the kids to go to and we can leisurely go to Epcot and HS. I appreciate everyone's suggestions.

IMHO changing to BC is a good choice if you won't take the monorail. (And while I am not claustrophobic I try to avoid the monorail so I understand your issues. "holding for clearance" is not a good statement IMHO LOL! It's unreliable, hot, smelly and parents think it's a playground!)

Plus, honestly BC is probably a nicer resort, has things like hot tubs, better restaurants in walking distance etc....

May I just say I love the Beach Club, especially for the lovely stroll to Epcot and the boats to DHS. I really enjoyed POFQ this year, but if money were no object, you'd have a hard time getting me away from the Beach Club.

On the family trip where we stayed at the Poly, my Dad's favorite "ride" in the whole entirety of WDW was the boat between DHS & Epcot (it was low crowd season and he always sat on the open deck at the back). His favorite way to go to Epcot was to take the bus from Poly to DHS and then ride the boat. :)
