Poly Studio Availability at Thanksgiving?

Hi, all! My family and I are veteran Disney vacationers, but are new to the idea of DVC. We are considering buying a resale contract at Poly. We've stayed there, and as a family of 3 with our daughter going off to college in a few years, the Deluxe studios work well for us. Our preferred travel time is Thanksgiving. We usually arrive either on Thanksgiving day or the day before and stay for 6 or 7 nights. How is the availability of the standard view studios at the 11 month mark? I've just heard about having to "walk" reservations to get them at busy times, and honestly, if that's what we'd have to do as DVC members, we just won't be DVC members. I looked at the availability chart and it shows "mostly" available for Poly studios at that time. Of course, I'd feel more comfortable if it were "open". Any real life experience from anyone here? Thanks so much! This forum is really proving to be an invaluable tool as we make this big decision.

If you book 11 months out you won't have an issue. I would not snooze, especially since the end of that time period runs into the first week of December, which is DVC's highest demand period of the year.

Okay, that is reassuring. Thank you! We're still on the fence about purchasing, but having to mess around with walking reservations and other shenanigans was going to be a deal breaker since we can easily get another nice room via cash rental on property for that time frame without that kind of hassle.

The grid for that historical really accounts for those years (like this one) where Thanksgiving and first week of December are basically the same week start. In those years, I might consider booking a little early and doing a short walk. But nothing like the walks you hear for CCV, or AKV Club or anything. I'm talking a one-time book-and-move.

I would avoid a December UY for Thanksgiving travel, FWIW. Hot tip you didn't ask for.

It’s pretty open if your looking for standard studios in the 11 month window. If you are looking at lake view, you shouldn’t have a problem if you log in at the 11 month mark. I’ve not had to walk a reservation although we’ve been open to split stays and have been flexible.

Thank you! We can only be flexible by a day or two given the school schedule, but I guess we can always just bail on Thanksgiving and go in summer. It's just so darn hot in summer!

Generally Poly standard studios are never going to have a problem with availability at 11 months. In addition, Thanksgiving week is actually one of the LESS popular weeks of the fall frenzy season, so honestly I couldn't even foresee a problem getting a lake view at 11 months. Remember - there are 300 standard view studios there - definitely not something that will fill quickly.

Poly is a bit immune to it because it has soooooo many studios. And if you really dig into the complaints they often are about not being able to get the cheapest room and view category at a resort or AKV concierge. At 11 months a standard view studio at PVB shouldn't be difficult. The only week that I saw a question was the most popular week of the year - the first week of Dec. You would have wanted to be online at 8am at 11 months.
