Looking ahead to our first stay at Poly as members this fall and wondering your opinions - standard room, or is the lake view worth it for the extra points? Thanks for your input!

We had Lake View in Moorea and had view of Cinderella's Castle, Space Mountain, the Bungalows, and of course, the fireworks. We liked it, but you can hear the ferry boat horn. It did not bother us, but it really bothers some people.

We enjoyed our ground floor room, for personal reasons, but if you want unobstructed views of the MK, request an upper floor.

I've only stayed in a Stnd View but very much liked it. 3rd floor of Moorea, we were practically in the treetops. Quiet and great access to the walkway to the TTC.

We loved the view from our 3rd floor Lake view, the only loud noise I really noticed was from beach maintenance each morning before 7:30 AM. He seemed to get stuck in the sand and would rev the engine of his ATV grinding the wheels in deeper. But we always slept with the door open as it was cool at night in October. I don't know if I would have noticed it that much with the door closed. And I would have considered it a normal noise after the first day I heard and ignored it anyway. Too me, looking at shrubbery and some hibiscus in a standard view (although view of the monorail might be nice) are not even near the substitute as a view of the fireworks and electric water parade at night and during the day the lagoon including the ferry boats, the bungalows and all of the sea racers boats zipping around. Let alone the view of the castle, people will show you photos of the castle and say you can hardly see it, but most people's eyesight is better than a non-zoomed camera lens and and you can see it just fine.

Hard to say whether it's worth it. I like to book lake view to ensure I don't get the Pago Pago parking lot "standard" view. Too bad, because I love the other standard views. The 1st floor lake views are more like bungalow views (though still with fireworks), which many don't consider to be worth the extra points. So it all depends on what room you actually end up in.

The parking lot views are also what scares me about the standard view. Is it possible to request a certain building, like you do when checking in when you are not DVC? If so, how does that work? Thanks!!

I think that you could request Tokelau which will always be Pool view or Garden View, or you could just request a pool view or a garden view. Or request Moorea which will always be garden view (unless you have Lake View). This should work fine while the resort is half sold. They will be offering these rooms first anyway. May not work as well when it is sold out.

I really liked lake view and would pay for it again. However, I have no Poly plans booked at this time, and do not know when we'll be back. We liked the walk to transportation center, and the walk to bus was not hard either.
