Just looking for clarification regarding what *is* currently considered standard view/garden view for rooms at the Polynesian. Any idea if Niue and Rarotonga are still in this category? I imagine the inventory of standard view rooms has gone down significantly since the pool/marina view was added.

Thanks!

Following...wondering too. Worried I’m going to be spending $400+ a nite to overlook a trash can

We just stayed in Rarotonga. We had booked a standard room and got 3810 (however, according to Touring Plans, this is a pool/marina room so maybe we got an upgrade?). We really liked the view. We could see the fireworks from our balcony.

I've tried to figure out which rooms are standard on Touring Plans, but they don't have it listed as a category, so I can't even search for it, it's the big mystery room category...Touring Plans has a category of standard view studios but those are the DVC rooms. I've never stayed at Poly and I am so worried about the terrible view I might get, I've been considering switching resorts.

There really are no terrible view rooms at the Poly. Even a Standard view looking at the MOnorail is amazing. The only real parking lot views are now DVC.
However, if you are going to obsess over this possibility I urge you to switch now.

Standard view: currently means views of the gardens, parking lot / Monorail beams.

Niue is all Standard view(s) and there are only 22 rooms total in the building. Just a couple of reminders about Niue: it is only 2 stories and the second floor rooms don't have a balcony, and Niue does not have an elevator. If you need to use an elevator, you will need to use Rarotonga and use the second floor bride to access Niue.

Rarotonga has both Standard and Pool views(s). Some of the rooms on the north side of the building have a view of the Oasis pool. On the south side would be views of the parking lot / Monorail beams.

I don’t think touring plans room finder is the be-all, end-all in terms of getting room categories correct, especially with the Pool/Marina category new for 2018.
It shows all rooms on north side of Rarotonga in the category, yet it is highly unlikely that every single one of those rooms has a view of the Oasis pool. In my opinion, i think they are over generalizing, and some of those rooms would still be garden view, because you would not be able to see the pool from some of them. Some yes, some no.
Again, this is just my opinion. I do not know what rooms Disney has designated for this new category. It would be nice if people who book them could post where they ended up staying on the Polynesian info thread to include that info on the first page as a helpful reference since this category is so new.

There is, honestly, one standard room with a weird view at Poly. One.

When you pay Poly rates, you are paying for location. Standard views typically promise nothing, at any resort. It is why they are cheapest. That said, at Poly, they are 99.9% pretty okay unless you hate plants and the monorail, but if you do even upgraded views at Poly will be distasteful to you.

I think on TP garden view=standard. At least that’s how I would interpret it as the “monorail view” rooms in Rarotonga (which I’m pretty sure are standard) are listed as “garden view.” Just a guess.

I agree, it would be helpful if people who book the pool/marina view rooms could post where they actually ended up.

We were in a room that Touring Plans lists as pool/marina (3810 in Rarotonga), but there was not a view of the Oasis pool. It was a view of the roof. So I don’t think that room is actually designated a pool/marina view by Disney. Even if I squinted and stood on my toes, I couldn’t see the pool. Touring Plans also says that room has 2 queen beds, but it had 1 king. The view of the fireworks was nice. Completely unexpected. My DD loved it! But agree for sure that TP isn’t the be-all, end-all source for getting rooms correct.

Lol we JUST stayed in 3810 last week also ! It was a great room , close to everything and surprise ... you can see the castle from the balcony.. we sat out on the balcony and watched the fireworks ..

The TP classifications aren't very accurate right now. I know it's something they've been trying to get more accurate data around with the view changes. Tikiman has had similar issues trying to get some clarity. I don't think it helped either site that because of 499 day booking, the Standard category is "overbooked" and some people who book Standard are getting de facto upgrades, and this is likely ongoing into late this year based on dates and timing of the functional change.

If I were booking Poly at this point, based on the new category and the fact that there is no clarification, I would just assume, going in, that a standard room will be any room that has zero possibility of a view of anything that contains water - pool/marina/lagoon or otherwise. If you see some water - bonus! If view is really important to you, I would hesitate booking standard at this point.

Agree ... in 3810 we were surprised to see the castle really lol I THINK we could see the quiet pool .. can’t remeber completely.. but if you ask for Rarotonga I would try for 3910 or higher ( even number side ) and you can definitely see the castle and fireworks. I wouldn’t be shocked if they made those some type of upgrade rooms given that .

Do not worry about Poly garden views!

For me, there are only a few Garden View room locations at Poly that come to my mind I would consider a less-good-view, but nothing I would complain about

1. Aoteaora end of building facing monorail
2. Rarotonga facing the entrance walkway
3. Tuvalu directly facing the Fiji building

And Niue first floor because of privacy, especially the first rooms when coming from main building. The walkway is really close and a lot of people come by. For Tonga Suites first floor facing the marina I would never consider to spend so much money for having a room with a patio with so many people coming by.

But for the above mentioned thee room locations the view is not terrible so it is nothing I would worry about at the Poly. But I would request first floor or third floor because of the missing balcony on 2nd floor.

I also wonder if that side of Rarotonga is now pool/marina. We stayed in 3814 a few years ago and it's still one of my favorite Poly rooms. If staying standard view, actually, I would still consider requesting Rarotonga even if we were placed on the other side of the hallway. That building is in such a great location!

I couldn’t see the marina only the quite pool and the castle .
