What is the standard view at the Poly? Are the studios out by the water or are they in a building closer to the main one?

I believe the only Lake view are in the Moorea Villas facing the lake. The backside of Mooreau, Pago Pago, and Tokelau would all be standard views which could be facing gardens, quiet pool, or parking lot. If you go to to main page of this site tikiman face book etc.. or google dvc poly maps you should be able to see locations.

Could you request a specific building for a standard studio room?

Or request to be close to the GCH ?

You can always request, doesn't mean it will or will not happen. Since all the DVC are near each other not sure if requesting close to GCH does much for you. The closest to GCH will be Tokelau. Of course depending on when you are going they may not be open yet (Sometime in Summer, I believe reports say June. Of course the East pool which is next to Tokelau is going to be under construction, from April until Fall or Winter, so not sure if you want that building or not. IMO this first time through with the construction, standard views are a ----shoot. Mooreau might be the safest bet to avoid parking lot and pool construction. You may want to look at Poly Map that is on here and various sites to get a better idea on the layout.

The Poly announced in a letter to guests this week that they will begin construction on the East leisure pool in mid-April until January 2016. This pool affects the west side of Tokelau which are all standard view rooms. You could end up looking at construction by requesting to be close to the GCH since Tokelau is the closest to the GCH. Tokelau is expected to be available for occupancy in July 2015.

Here is the most recent map that includes the DVC longhouses:

It was my understanding that Disney blocked the Samoa rooms facing the Nanae pool construction. Wouldn't they do the same thing for the buildings that face the quiet pool (even though a lot more rooms would be affected)?

They'd block the Somoa rooms probably because those are cash paying customers. DVC would be different. Worst yet, if they open DVC Poly to cash bookings, I'm betting those people aren't going to get construction views either!

they might keep them closed, but purely speculation. Until construction is completed at the entire resort it will be a guessing game.

I agree, but no way would I be quiet if I was overlooking construction! I have a standard view for my April trip (lake view for June). It's only 3 nights so they can put me somewhere other than a construction view.
