Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in with a review of the Poly, as I've read some poor ones over the past few months. I was there 8/11 - 8/17, and I admit I started to get nervous reading some of the reviews. It was myself, dh, ds (age 7), and dd (age 3...but turning 4 three weeks later). Here are the highs and "lows"...
Room - 3rd floor Garden View in Tahiti. I had requested Tokelau, but it was not available, so I asked if one of the other "newer" buildings were available, and was told we could have the room in Tahiti, so we took it. LOVED it! It was so big, beautiful view off the balcony. We almost always walked to the TTC for the monorail (or got off at the TTC). We got off at the GCH a couple of times just to appease the kids. The walk to the GCH and the Volcano pool got a bit long with small with with short legs
, but in the grand scheme of things, really not too bad. Housekeeping did a fine job...clean room and towels. One day, I was not feeling well at all (sinus infection...no fault of Disney's), so we left the "Do Not Disturb" sign out all day. Housekeeping called us in the late afternoon to make sure that everything was OK, and to see if we needed anything. No towel animals, but that's OK. We've gotten them the past two years at POR, but you know what? The kids didn't even notice or care that we didn't have them this time.
Internet Access - While speaking of the room, I'll touch on this. I work a job that has to go with me wherever I go...my clients depend on me. So, internet access is crucial. However, I couldn't get online the first couple of days. I kept calling tech support, and they kept having me try the same thing over and over and over again. Uh...hello....I've done that 3 times already!
I wound up calling them three times, and even when they said they'd send a technician, I had no note that they had been there, and it still wasn't working. I do not blame this on the Poly, as it is a central tech support area. But, the manager came through for me, anyway. On one day, having the internet access was crucial...I had to have it. I went to the front desk the day before to ask if there was anywhere else at the Poly that I could access the internet, or if I would have to go to the GF or Cont to do it. They CM asked about the access in my room, and while I was explaining what had happened, the manager overheard. She said she would see to it that tech support got there to fix the problem, and all of my internet charges would be comped. And, if they could not fix it, I should make any charges at the GF business center to my room so they could reverse the charges. I was not looking for anything, merely trying to find the best place to get my work done, so that was a nice surprise. She came through for me, and the internet was working when I returned to the room later that day.
Food - We went to Captain Cook's the afternoon we checked in, around 2:30pm, and it was chaos. Huge lines, nobody knew where to go, what to do, etc. The food was fine, but since it was our first experience there, we kind of got turned off by it. But, we did go in at other times to fill our mugs and it didn't look nearly so bad (except the time my dh went to get some milk, and witnessed a guest get mad at the cashier...something about the dining plan..and he screamed at her and threw his beeper at her. However, she still had his KTTW card, so he had to eat some humble pie and go back and get it.
). We also had the character breakfast at Ohana. I can't really comment too much on the food, as my sinus infection messed with my appetite). Lilo, Stitch and Pluto were fantastic and spent lots of time with my kids. Mickey, however, must have had a hot date as he blew through so fast he was almost a blur.
Pool - we loved the pool! A little crowded during the mid-afternoon, but manageable. Both of my kids loved the slide, and couldn't get enough of it. My dd, although "big enough" for the slide (and loving every minute of it), also loved the zero-entry because she finally had an area that she could stand in.
Overall - We loved the Poly, and would stay there again. Having that monorail access is just way too convenient...we are now spoiled.
If you have any questions, let me know!!!
