I was in such a hurry to book our fairytale package that I didn't think to add any special room request (nor did I have a clue what to ask for!). Should I call now to make a bldg. request for Aug.? Or would it be better to call when we're one week out? Also, I would LOVE any input into which bldg. and floor to request and why. Thanks a bunch!

Call and ask for the request to be added to your reservation. Requesting a specific room number may be difficult to get if it's occupied on your check in date and then the room assignor will just basically have to guess.

Your best bet is to request a longhouse or two and a floor preference.

You didn't mention what was important to you in terms of where you'd like your room to be, so I'll refer you to Tikiman's site to browse the list of longhouses and their pros and cons.

Oh, yeah... All around convenience is what we're looking for. Don't want a long haul from the pool to our room. But #1 is atmosphere/view. I really want a balcony or patio. Are the renovated rooms much better than not yet renovated rooms? Is 3rd better than 1st floor? How are 3rd. floor rooms acccessed...by elevator or stairs?

Hey Paula,

We just got back from the Poly. I always had CRO add my requests to my reservation. Then I went ahead and faxed a request re-stating the same about 4 days before our arrival date.

My requests were:

Tahiti
Ground floor
Connecting Rooms
Unobstructed view of the castle

We were guaranteed non-smoking because of my asthma.

I got everything I wanted.

Hi,

I am so excited for you, You will have a great time. You might try third floor Hawaii building. This is a secured building with a balcony facing the castle. Beautiful view I leave my curtains open to view the castle all night. Second floor of this building is the concierge. (which is wonderful) it is very close to the rock slide pool and the quiet pool. It is also very close to the marina and the beach.
Have fun, fun, fun. This whole hotel is beautiful.

Did I understand the Third floor of Hawaii is non-concierge. Will that be the case during renovations? ( Will the third floor of Tahiti be non-concierge?)
My parents are coming and are not staying concierge. They wanted to be in the same building, but I told them they couldn't. ( they want to see my DDs.) I sent them to Samoa, but this could change everything.

The entire Hawaii building is concierge- all three floors. During the renovation on Hawaii, the entire Tahiti building will be concierge.

Callie- what you told your parents is correct. You will have to be in different buildings. Samoa should be lovely- freshly renovated and very near both pools, the Great Ceremonial House and the boat dock.

I think I would find concierge and non-concierge guests traveling together a bit awkward. They will not be able to join you in the concierge lounge, where you will probably want to spend time at breakfast and for your snack breaks...

Thank you.
I thought the whole longhouse was concierge, but had to check. As for being difficult to travel with non-concierge parents. My DH and i are looking forward to a little "down time". My family thinks it is funny that they are just like the Barrone's (Everbody Loves Raymond). So some concierge time will be a nice break.

Will all of Tahiti be concierge for the summer?

Callie,

All of Hawaii is concierge, the concierge lounge is located on the second floor, the library, is on the third floor and the concierge office is on the ground floor.
I like the third floor because you do not hear people and kids running on the floors above you, and there is a balcony there. Enjoy your time and I love Everbody loves Raymond !!!!

The poly concierge has a library?!?!?! Oh baby! Anyone know whats in it? The kinds of books... etc? I confess to having a book addiction. Its not my fault! I contracted it working in the central library at UCR while a student there.

Aaahhhh books AND Disney... paradise! Uh oh. What if the library only has movies? :( oh no!!!

You should know that not everyone who requests Somoa is going to get it. It is a small building and lots of people have been requesting it. So you should definitely have a back up request. If you want your parents close, but not too close, Tokelau might be a good alternative. It is near Tahitii but still seperated from it.

Bianca,
I have given them all the materials to read, as well as tikiman's site. They do have Tokelau as a back-up. As a matter of fact, they are torn, too much information.
Thank you for all your help. And keep it coming!!!

Here is a little secert, if it is just your parents that are staying in a non-concierge room you can bring them with you into the build. Concierge at the Polynesian are not going to tell you cannot bring your parents in. There are so many Guest in the Tahiti building it is hard to keep up with everyone. Any ways the concierge desk are on the second floor and the lougne is on the 3rd floor. I would not do it everyday but I think it would be fine.

I would suggust requesting Tokelau, it is going to be the closest to the concierge building.

Uh Oh....

Hi Sunboi!

Welcome to the DIS! You are going to find that some folks have some pretty definite opinions about allowing any non-concierge guest into the concierge lounge. When I first came to the DIS I discovered some posters can get down right hostile on certain subjects. But don't let it get to you. Smile, shake off the dust and walk on. Its disney after all... and again, welcome to the DIS!

I don't personally have an issue with bringing a family member into the lounge once or twice. Though some people's comments were very nasty when I posted that opinion last year.

The real problem comes from those very few people who inevitably abuse the concierge lounge... those who go thru the place like locusts, stripping it to the walls of food and drink, or bringing their 30 closest non-concierge friends in to likewise graze in the lounge. This obviously makes it hard on the guests who are paying for the priviledge of being there. (And there are enough paying concierge guests who abuse the lounge, but thats another popular DIS topic.)

I don't think you or your guests would do that. But there are people who do.
