DH, DS and I stayed at the Poly in September 2004. We had a blast. We purchased 2 refillable mugs and kept them for sentimental reasons. We are returning in May for a Land/Sea vacation  and staying at the Poly again (I don’t think we will stay anywhere else now). I was curious if the mugs have changed and if we could bring the mugs we have at home from our Sept 04 visit. It would be nice if we didn’t have to purchase new mugs – they are so darn expensive. pirate:

Here we go again....;)

mlsears, this is a very ~~~HOT~~~ subject on the boards. You will hear "yes", "no", "the CM's told me I could" but, I have only found 1 source that gave me a true answer and here it is An Email Reply from Disney. Many are going to tell you this is a fake and all other kinds of crap. I say lf you don' think it is real, contact them yourself and see what answer you get. I will tell you, it took about 13-14 days before they replied to my email.

Mugs are only good for the trip you bought them on. If you go on another trip you need to buy new mugs.

At the time you bought your mug there were signs that said your mug was good during your current stay.

Disney generally looks the other way, I don't think even a handful of people posted being asked not to fill an incorrect mug. YMV. I'd spring for the new mugs but I use mine at home.

I just purchased a refillable mug last week at Saratoga Springs Resort. This is what it said on the side of the mug - "Free refills available at our Beverage Islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased." I am wondering if they are posting this message universally now on all the refillable mugs at the resorts?

Yes they are. Do you happen to have a pic of the SS mug.

Peter11435 - I don't have a current picture, but one can be acquired and posted. When I first purchased this mug, I saw that message and started laughing thinking about all the threads on this board about the mugs.

We saw this message on the Carribean beach mugs we purchased in 2003, so I think it's on all of them now.

I wrote several times, worded each email a little different each time, "always", got the very same standard official reply with no deviation at all each time.

The reply was:
Quote:"Please know that the "Souvenir Mug" program at Walt Disney World® Resorts allow you to refill beverages (including hot coffee & tea) at your Resort for the length of your current stay.
Please note that this program is for your Resort only. It is not extended to refills at other Walt Disney World Resorts® or Theme Parks."

We again bought mugs last August, this time at Poly. No signs and definitely nothing on the mugs. I saw a couple refilling AS mugs while we were there, no problem. Use your concience.

It's not the mug you're buying... it's the privilege of refilling that mug as often as you like for your stay. If you only fill it twice, those are expensive drinks. If you refill it every hour on the hour, they are the cheapest drinks you'll ever buy. I'm sure most people refill them often enough to get their money's worth. I can drink $10.99 worth of coffee in a single day... :drinking1

We have loads of those mugs from various resorts during various stays. We WERE told back in the late 90's that they were good for life, but I'm sorry I'm not going to bring them all the way from the UK just to save $10! We get our money worth in the first day or two and we always stay for 14 days at least!!! In fact when we've moved from resort to resort in one holiday we've still bought new mugs at each resort.

At home we've used them as pen holders or given them to children relatives as a fun mug, if necessary throw them away or store them. All I can say is I wouldn't reuse them.

I have been to the Poly in May and October the past 3 years. There has been a huge sign up. It is the MENU. On the bottom of it in large letters it states that the mug is only good for your current stay. There is also a sign on the soda machine. These signs were there in August.
