Day 1 Part 2: Why On Earth are They Clapping??
Crystal: Me! WDW Poly Princess, lover of all things Disney, DIS addict, planning addict-19 year old photographer/customer service person/horseback riding instructor/ Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant (Yup, 4 jobs. See why I need a vacation??)
Mary: Mother of 5 lovely daughters, has to be drug to Disney, but tends to start enjoying it quickly. Somewhere-over-50 wonderful lady.
After some quick hair and makeup, and a call to a taxi company, mom and I were ready to go to Arabian Nights. We waited near the entrance for Katie and her friend Travis, and then proceeded through the line to the souvenir photo area, where they snapped our picture in front of a sign with two rearing horses. Because I also work at a dinner show that has horses, I was constantly comparing everything at Arabian Nights to Dixie Stampede the entire night. I found it kind of odd that rather than a ticket with your seat number, you receive a small plastic rectangle with your seating assignment on it on a first-come basis. We were in the fifth row, in section B. We decided to kill time before the show browsing the gift shop, and trying to ignore the girl singing in the preshow, whose voice none of us cared for.
Im not going to elaborate on Arab. Nights *too* much, since this is a Disney Board, but Ill give you a brief overview
The basic story is an Arabian Princess who is getting married, and the Genie is in charge of the celebration, and brings out various acts. I was excited to see that they did have girls doing trick riding, because thats what Im really interested in, but they really werent all that good (I know, Im biased!). After a while, we started noticing that the family a little further down the row from us was clapping at *everything*. Someone would ride past on a horse, they would clap. Someone made their horse run, they applauded. It seemed that they were very easily entertained, so we decided we simply had to out-clap them. We started breaking into applause for no apparent reason, and they would follow! We were completely cracking up! I found out afterwards that mom had NO idea why Katie, Travis, and I were clapping so much- she thought we were just really enjoying the show!
The dinner consisted of some kind of meat.. I don't remember what it was, only that it was not well-done-enough for my tastes.. vegetables, potatoes, rolls, and cake for dessert.
After the show, I was hoping that more of the riders would be around to talk to , but only a few were signing autographs, so I decided to skip talking to them. We did sit for several minutes after the show ended, however, because they let all the horses out into the arena, and they were all fighting, which was, we decided, as much if not more entertaining than the show itself! Katie volunteered to drive us home to DXL, and we made plans to meet her for our breakfast in the castle on the fourth and parted ways. When we got back to the room, I set up a Mickey Wake-up call for the next morning. Ive seen a lot of people say that they talked to a person to set this up, but the whole time we were at WDW, we just pushed a button on the phone, and the recording would have you enter the hour you wanted the wakeup call. Mom hit the shower, and I hit the bed, really showing the signs of only three hours of sleep the night before by now!
