Poly pool in the summer?

Hello. We have never stayed at the Poly, but are considering it for our late June trip. It seems to be my dream resort. :cloud9: My question is, how crowded does the main pool get during busier times? We are big resort people, and love afternoons relaxing and playing in the pool and grabbing a bite from quick service. When the resort is full, is it too busy to enjoy yourself? I have heard that is the case. Also, we are currently booked at POR in a Royal Room. The Poly will cost double. Is that justifiable? We can swing it, but I have never spent that much for a hotel before LOL! It will just be me and the kids, DH can't make it this time. Oh, and we love love the MK. TIA!

All of the Disney pools get crowded during peak pool times. The Polynesian is no different. But it's never stopped me from having a good time. :)

Is it crowded like crazy bumper to bumper to people :scared1:, or just busy :thumbsup2. We can handle busy. I have been told that the Poly pool is smaller than the one at POR, so I was wondering if that was the case, and if that made a huge difference. Thank You so much.

The Poly does have two pools, so when the Volcano pool is really busy the quiet pool is an option. We have stayed at the Poly during the summer many times and although crowded, we have always enjoyed the pools.

I absolutely adore the Poly and the volcano pool! That said, the last time we stayed there (early August, 2010), the pool was SO crowded in the late afternoons that we really couldn't enjoy it. I mean bumper to bumper people with kids splashing and kicking and bumping into us without any supervision or someone around to say something like "excuse me" or "please be careful not to splash the other guests." It was ridiculous. My understanding is that the lifeguards have been asking for resort ID on busy days and that this new policy is having an impact on the crowds.

There are also games and pop music BLARING all over the place, such that you can't relax and have a conversation with the person next to you. I think that these were periodically happening from around 1-4 PM. I understand that the games thing is now going on at ALL the WDW theme pools, which is so disappointing to me. Remember when swimming in a pool and maybe, if you were lucky, sliding down a slide, were entertaining enough?! As a PP mentioned, the East Pool is lovely and usually isn't crowded, but I think that more people are using it these days to get away from the loud music and games.

It gets pretty crowded but the beach is right there too and takes some if the overflow. W,e like to go to parks early and then pool after lunch and both recent trips at Poly we had hard time finding any free pool chairs (during crowded Easter week). Last time I packed beach towels - we set up on the sand and had a blast!

Thanks for the responses. We like to have a lot of down time at the resort. Maybe Poly will be too busy? Would AKL be a better option (it is also over $500 less for the week). What about the CR? I wish I knew what to do :confused3

I don't know if this helps, but despite our "bad" experience in 2010, we are returning to the Poly this August. I'm hopeful that the lifeguards are committed to limiting access to the pool to Poly guests.

We have stayed at AKL, liked it, didn't love it; the pool was kind of dull, we thought. CR is fantastic, but it doesn't have the same tropical atmosphere that we love about the Poly. We stayed at a mod (CSR) last summer, and we think that the deluxe is worth the extra $, especially the Poly, for the location and the views, the room, the balcony (we request one). Only you can decide what to do with your family. Have a great trip, no matter what you decide.
