Has anyone stayed in a Poly room on the 1st floor with toddlers / young kids? Mine will be 3 & 5 when we go and I'm afraid of them escaping on us. It's amazing what they can do and get into even when we are watching. Aside from requesting a 2nd or 3rd floor room on my reservation, I wanted to mentally prepare myself for what to expect.

Any chance the doors to the patio have one of those security pins high up?

This is all assuming we actually get to go to WDW and actually stay at the Poly. Still need to talk DH into that one.

We are staying at the Poly in about a month with our three kids, ages 6, 5 and 21 months. We requested a ground floor room because of the kids. Some of our friends stayed in a first floor room at the Poly last year with their young children. They said it was great because, while one of them was getting ready in the morning, the other could take the kids out to the patio to run around and play. Also, they said it was much easier to not have to wheel the stroller into the elevator to go to an upper level room.

If you're worried about your kids escaping, maybe you could bring a bell to hang on the door handle, so it will alert you if they try to get out.

Good luck with planning your trip!

The door lock wasn't a problem for us, but the doors were really, really, really difficult (darn near impossible) to successfully close. You'd think it was closed and latched, but it wasn't. When pushed closed and locked, I don't think you'll need to worry about it. But be very cautious that the latch catches completely.

I had the same fear when we stayed there in 2004. I requested and got a 2nd floor rooom which was great for us. one word of caution, those doors were heavy and ours rolled smoothly. DD slammed her fingers in them not 10 minutes after we were in the room.
