I need some help. I currently have YC booked for 9/11-17 for myself, wife, and 3 year old daughter. I'm having second thoughts and thinking that a monorail resort (easier MK access) might be better for her. My wife and I think we would prefer the YC for the quietness and the location (Epcot WS and Boardwalk). However, the location of the Poly would probably be better for my daughter (and therefore us). We have only stayed in POR and POFQ before, so I think we will be happy with the accomondations of either. I do have some concerns with the rehab going on at the Poly. Also, I'm not found of the Poly's decor, but that is very minor. If I could get a newly refurbed room, then I would definately do the Poly. Any thoughts onto which one would be better in our case?

I have stayed at both and both are great. With a 3-year-old I'd probably go with the Poly for the larger rooms; zero-entry pool (and mellow quiet pool); proximity to Chef Mickey's, 'Ohana, Fort Wilderness and MK; grounds (as opposed to hallways) where she can run around (but seriously watch out for "golf" carts). Yes, it needs a rehab and will have work going on, and you won't have the GCH attached to your longhouse for constant air conditioning, but the open plan of the grounds is relaxing and nice for a little one and her parents. Definitely try YC (or, even better, IMO, BC) next time for all its advantages.

As much as I love SAB I think you'll be much better off at the Poly. You're daughter will want to spend more time in MK than in Epcot, so the back entrance to Epcot wont be as big of a plus as being on the monorail. Also you won't gain anything from the pool because she wont be able to experience all the perks at SAB!

Btw did I mention they have tonga toast at the Poly for breakfast...yyuummmm!!! haha sorry but I tend to think with my tummy!

I love the Yacht Club as well but I am a big Polynesian fan as well... a very hard choice to make but if I had to choose.. I'd have to go with the Yacht Club just because of the rehab going on right now... plus the location. The monorail is great if you are spending most of your time in MK but to be honest with a smaller child.. I'd go with the Yacht Club.

Good Luck!

Thank you all for your comments. Mama Twinkles reminded me of something that played a part in the decision to choose YC to begin with. It has all interior corridors. Considering that I'm going in hurricane season, that will come in handy if we happen to be there during a storm. I heard many stories last fall that the guests gathered in the lobby and common areas and had activities, food, etc. during the storms. Those guests in other resorts were pretty much stuck in their rooms the whole time. Now if I go back in the spring, I will stay at Poly.

I have stayed at both and LOVE the YC, and not impressed with the Poly. I did stay in Hawaii building concierge. there was just so much more at the YC, I found the rooms to be larger, if your tall forget the showers in the Poly, unless you get a room in one of the newer buildings.

I liked the idea of being able to walk to both the MGm or epcot

A 3 yo will go where you tell her and have fun at all the parks if you don't make an issue out of it. Our son LOVED all of the parks on his first trip (at 3). At 7 his favorite is Epcot.

I have stayed at both (acutally the BC, but same difference). I prefer the YC/BC over the Poly for several reasons:

1. The rooms -all recently refurbished-the Poly rooms were in need of a facelift.
2. Pool-SAB has a huge sandy beach area-perfect for little ones and a small slide for smaller kids. The zero entry at the Poly was kind of a small area.
3. Restaurants- Cape May has the BEST character breakfast we've been to (and we've been to most all of them), Poly has the worst we've been to. Lots of really good choices at the YC and the whole area.

4. Location- it makes sense to us that when we are "fresh" in the morning we don't mind taking a bus to a park. You will want to take a mid-day swim/nap break. At the YC , it will be soooo easy to walk over to Epcot in the evenings. Our son always loved doing this park at night, since it is a bit slower-paced. He just relaxed in his stroller while we went around the World showcase. Walking back to your room after the park closes is soooo nice....you can also do the boardwalk at night.

After our recent Poly stay, our DS said that he preferred the BC over the Poly...so do I!

I like both resorts and either way you will have a good time. I do prefer the Polynesian but with you saying you are not into the décor than I would say do the YC. There is not much chance you will get a new designed room since there will only be one longhouse open with those rooms by September and the other rooms are not in bad shape since everything was replaced in the last year or two (original look). I think the Polynesian has more to offer but the YC is not very far behind.

I would do the YC this to me is the best location Disney has. Food pool things to do all in walking distance. We stay at BCV and use the bus to MK just so we get dropped of at the front of the park and not in the parking lot. So you don't have to take the shuttel to the ferry or monirail. You also have boats to MGM & epcot. I love this hotel.

Stay at the YC. We will be at the BC for our DDs 1st trip this fall. They will be aged 4 and 1.5. We looked into the monorail resorts, but DH and I loved YC our last trip and love the area. One this, is we'll be going when the parks close earlier, so we can walk around to Boardwalk at night too.

This is a little off the topic but I'm booked for the BCV this Sept 10th - 17th. I was debating between the YC or BC. Is there really any differences between the two?

Thanks,

Doug...

I say the YC. Don't forget MGM has Playhouse Disney, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.

I like the full balconies of the YC. BC has some standing only balconies. YC seems less hurried than BC but both are really nice.

The interior corridors with everything being under one roof is a big thing with me....I don't like having to walk in the rain to get from my room to go somewhere else in the hotel. I've stayed at Poly twice (both concierge lagoon view) and while it has it's pluses I choose YC.

Though I have never stayed at YC/BC, I would still prefer Poly for the convinience. TTC is sooo close, so it is easy to walk there to take the monorail to Epcot. Of course there's MK right in front of you. Your choices would be either the monorail or the boat, whichever you like.

At first, I didn't care about the room decor (from looking at the pixs)... but when I got there... boy... I found myself liking the decor a lot!! I love everything about the room!! I love everything about the Poly! :lovestruc This place is sooo... well... sooo tropical!! I love the island feeling! To see MK from afar, it is so "magical" and to watch the "Wishes" from the Ohana or from the beach is just awesome!! You can also watch EWP. For me... I vote Poly!!

I stayed at the Poly in May with my 6yo and 1yo. It was great! The location can't be beat. My kids love MK more than anything, it was easy to shoot back to the Poly for a nap. The zero-entry pool was excellent for little ones- nice and shallow at the edge. Our ground floor room was great, kids feed ducks every morning with no fear of any balcony mishaps. The Poly was great!

I'm glad you made your decision. I just wanted to add that we've taken our twins to disney since they were babies (now age 5) and when they were age 3, they did not have a favorite park. They were happy at any park doing whatever we chose. It's when they got a little older -- closer to age 5 -- that they started to name certain rides they wanted to go on. However, even then, they were still happy anywhere. The YC has a 0-entry sandy-bottom pool area that your child will LOVE. It is very shallow water and has mounds of sand in a few different areas. My kids play in that area for hours every single day. A favorite thing for us is when our kids happened to fall asleep in the stroller, we'd take a stroll along the boardwalk and grab a snack or else a drink in the Epcot countries and just stroll around and enjoy the sites. Another fun thing we enjoy is going to either Epcot or HS at night so that we can walk to the parks and let our kids get cozy in the jogger with fun light-up toys. We stay for the late shows and then walk back to our resort and 9 times out of 10, our kids are fast-asleep as we casually stroll back. Anyway, long story short, just wanted to say you made a great choice. We've also stayed at Poly and love that resort as well, but the Epcot resorts hold a special place for us.

DW,
After you chase DD3 around all day, you are going to need a Mai Tai. I have done some exhaustive research and have found the best Mai Tai at WDW is at the Tambu Lounge at the Poly. I, unfortunetly, was sick during our last Poly adventure and I had to settle for Nyquil smoothies. Those are not too bad if you throw in a cherry and some pineapple.

We have stayed at both. We prefer the YC hands down. The choice of dining options alone is so much larger at the YC area.:)

From now on, I will need to pay closer attention to "when" a post was started! This post is three years old - back when the Poly was around $200/night!
