I’m planning a trip with friends the first week of March to escape the cold in NYC. We’ll do MK one day and Sea World one day to try the new Mako coaster, but otherwise we’ll just be relaxing at the pool. We’re all in our late 20s, and my friends aren’t necessarily “Disney people” like I am

I feel like the tropical theme of Poly would be nice in the winter, but I know the Volcano Pool is popular with kids, and ideally we want to relax at a pool with fewer kids. How is the new Oasis Pool—does it get crowded (looks kind of small), and are there noticeably fewer children there vs. the feature pool?

I have never stayed at VGF but was pleasantly surprised after looking up the Courtyard Pool- it looks pretty large, and I assume kids would prefer the other Beach Pool since it has the slide, etc. Downside is that while the resort and grounds are beautiful, it's not particularly unique, and I'm trying to sell my friends on the magic of Disney :D

Can’t go wrong with either, but I just can’t decide!

They have the new Oasis pool at PVB that is closer to the villas, has a hot tub and also a snack bar with what looks like a nice menu for light meals and drinks. It apparently is a salt water pool. So if the only thing keeping you from the Poly is a quieter pool I think you'd be fine.

As for VGF pools, they have always seemed more quiet than the Volcano pool at Poly.

My last two stays were at the VGF (May 2016) and the Poly (Sept 2015). I know this won't be particularly helpful... But I really do think either of those would be great for your group. It really will come down to your (or your friends') personal tastes. For me, I preferred the stay at the Grand Floridian, primarily for the access to the restaurants (Citricos/Narcoosee's) and Mizners. Also, I just like the overall theming better at the Grand. Don't get me wrong! We also had a fantastic time at the Poly, and spent some fun nights at Trader Sam's (and you can just stumble home from there :o).

If pools with at least some peace and relaxation are your thing, I'd also give VGF the edge.

But as you say, if "magic" is what you're after I would have to give the edge to the Poly...

Sorry, I'm sure I've been no help at all!

I can't speak for the pools, although I agree that the Oasis pool seems quieter. Regardless, nothing against VGF, I would stay Poly all the way. I think it appeals more to your "age demographic" (for lack of better term). Plus Trader Sams is a phoeminal bar and one that cannot be missed especially if you are trying to sell your friends on the Disney Magic and imagineering.

Depends on what size of room you are after.

You may find it hard to get a studio at VGF, and if you are looking for a bit more space a 1br is not an option at the Poly.

Much more of an adult theme at the VGF and if you use the main pool you will find fewer kids there.

Thanks all! I went with Poly. Will be nice to have Trader Sam's at night, and I like the food options better there. Can always walk over to VGF and use the pools there if needed :teeth:
