Poly - Niue

I haven't seen anyone mention the Niue Longhouse at the Polynesian. I was thinking of requesting this building because it looks like a prime location and it was completely renovated in 04. Any drawbacks?

We used to always request this longhouse because of the location to the gch, but now, if I am not mistaken, it is totally smoking and we did use it to cut through to the gch during a rainstorm and let me tell you, you could really smell the smoke. I told ds with asthma to hold his breath until we got out of there. Also I dont know what tikimans site says, you can look it up and it might help you. Guess it would be the perfect location if you smoke and just want to be immediately outside the gch.

This off this topic, but could someone please tell me how to pronounce all of the Poly Longhouses. I know this is stupid because i should just know, but i dont want to sound crazy when i request a certain one.

Thanks, luvmarypoppins - I can't believe I messed up...I wrote it down in my notes as no smoking. Big mistake. I am apprehensive to request Tahiti since they are renovating the day we leave....meaning it isn't as updated. It seems all the longhouses on that "side" near the ttc have not been renovated as recently as the other side and I did read more than once that the Rarotonga had a bad smell...so I wanted to stay in something "newer". Samoa might be my only choice if wanting to stay either centrally located or closer to the ttc. But my children are grown up now and although they will love the pool and beach...don't know if the Samoa will have an abundance of very young children ...moreso than other areas.

Can't decide!!!

We stayed in the Niue longhouse in the summer as my sister and mother are smokers. It seemed as though the entire building was desiginated for smoking. The smoke did not bother us as we are kind of use to being around others smoking, but if it something you are not use to I would recommend another long house
It really is a great location though, near to the main building as well as both of the pools.

The other drawback to Niue is that it is only two floor tall and the upper floor does not have a balcony.

Tahiti, Rapa Nui and Tokelau had a soft rehab about 2 years ago with some touch up work in the last year or so. They did not go through the work that the other longhouses did because they were newer construction and were not in need of the repairs the original longhouses were. The work starting on Tahiti is going to be to add the new decore, furniture, carpets, TVs, etc and I am told the whole building will not be shut down to do this. I have been at the Polynesian before when rooms were being worked on and I never even knew the work was going on across the hall until saw the door open.

Rarotonga was the last of the original longhouses to get the rehab that was just done so it has the newest rooms in it and since then I have not heard any complaints about smell.

Tikiman, or anyone else with the info:

What does a soft rehab mean? We would like to stay in Tokelau but are not sure whether the rooms or other parts of the buildings have been rehabbed? We requested that longhouse because we want to be assured of a non-smoking room due to DD's very bad asthma, and we thought the location would be very convenient to the pools, the GCH and the TTC.
Any additional info will be helpful.

Soft rehabs as I have heard them called happen throughout most years and are not usually announced or even known about by guests. I have seen them do these on a few different visits. They usually go in and touch up paint, repair things, replace bedspreads and other things that get worn. I am sure there is other work that goes on that none of us are even aware of. I would see small projects going on around the grounds when I would take walks around during the day.

I have seen reports from people staying in Tokelau lately and they were all good. All of Tokelau is non-smoking.

WDW TRIP NUT,

If you just go to each longhouse page it will say the name when it opens up. Also after it says it you can hit the play button on the player bar at the top of each page to hear it again.

I put those on a few years ago because everyone was asking me how to say the names. words in Hawaiian and other Polynesian languages don't usually sound the way you expect them to since their a e i o and u sound different.
