Poly/Hyatt MCO question

Hi Ho WDW Thrill Seekers!

Our normal WDW routine is to stay overnight at an Indianapolis airport hotel (Wyndham park and fly) and fly out first thing in the morning. This means the stress of getting to sleep, getting up around 3am, getting the shuttle (which isn’t always timely, going through screening (they hate me), and trying to eat breakfast somewhere (if I don’t eat I will get a headache). Last year was awful, I was exhausted by 3:00, I was not myself, and it took me a couple of days to get over it.

I was wondering what if: instead of staying overnight in Indy, we took a late flight (6pm to 8pm) and stayed at the MCO Hyatt overnight (rather than wasting a night at the Poly). We could get up refreshed, no stress, hop on MME, be at the Poly by 8am, and let the adventure begin! The money we save by taking a late flight roughly covers the price difference between the Wyndham and the Hyatt.

Has anyone done this? I have considered staying at Pop Century, but then you get into the whole resort change thing. The Hyatt sounds easy and care free…

Thoughts or ideas - Thanks - Marty

We've done that once before and liked it. You can get up early, check out, get ME to your resort, check in and still make RD at whatever park you've picked for the day. Bonus is that you're not as tired when you hit that first park.:cool1::thumbsup2

we are from chicago and always take the 6:00 a.m. flight out and by noon i am so done! i talked with dh about the exact same thing at staying at the hyatt at the airport with a later flight, grabbing something to eat then going to bed and wake up ready for disney! sounds like a great thing! not to burst your bubble but upon further research i have read about people who got bumped from the airport hyatt to another one in orlando somewhere. so just to sure to call that day to verify your ressies:!:goodvibes have a great trip!

"i have read about people who got bumped from the airport hyatt"

I'm still getting grief about bring bumped off of a flight and that happened 10 years ago!! That is just my kinda luck!!!

We always do this. The Hyatt is a very nice hotel. It's very easy to pick up your bags, head up the escalator and check in. It's a great way to start the vacation off right!

The Hyatt is very nice. We once used a free night through hotels.com to stay there, and enjoyed it quite a bit! After scrambling to get to the airport early early (sick and wrong early) on our last trip, I think we'll be doing it again on the way *home* from now on, and maybe on the day we fly in, too. It's worth it.

We do this almost every trip. It's great getting off the plane and being in your hotel room a short time later without even having to go outside. We usually eat dinner at McCoy's in the hotel and then turn in early. We have always had a very smooth transition from the Hyatt to the Poly. When we did this last November we were the only ones on our ME bus! Door to door service! We were checked in and at the park by 9:30.

You have just given me a good idea! We are arriving from Singapore after more than 24 hours of flight time. Our last sector from Houston to MCO is scheduled to touch down at around 10.20pm. I was still fretting about how late we'll be when we get to WDW.

Just one question, how do we get onto ME the next morning? Do we still tell Disney that we want ME, then just put on our tags and go to the counter the next morning? Or do we register for ME at the counter the next morning?

Thanks!

That is a good question... Anyone?

You will have to claim your own bags when you arrive and take them on the bus with you the next morning. We just don't provide flight info for our incoming flight or let them know we are coming in the night before so we don't use the yellow tags. If you are claiming your own luggage there's no need to use the tags.

We have done it and loved it. The Hyatt was very nice and the staff were outstanding. We are looking into again for this year. Their breakfast buffet in their restaurant was quite nice and the beds are very comfortable.

Yikes!

Bumped from the Hyatt?!?

Does this happen often?

We have reservations for 2 nights there in late June (long story as to why we need 2 nights) but we also have family joining us (but in another room) on the 2nd night. We'll all be going on a cruise the next day.

Anyone know how the "bumping" works? I assume it's by arrival time? (And of course, we're arriving later in the evening...)

We've had these reservations for months, and I'd really be PO'd if we got there only to be bumped - especially after having paid more than 8 months in advance!

Further info appreciated.

Got it! Thanks Susan :)

Just another idea, to save a little money (and not worry about getting "bumped" from the Hyatt). There are several hotels near the airport that all provide free shuttles to/from the airport. You could stay at one of those and take the shuttle back to the airport in the morning and catch ME to WDW. We've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn near the airport a couple of times (the night before cruises) and found it to be very comfortable.

Turns out, the Hyatt was very nice - but MCO restaurants close up at 9:00 (some of them at 8:00). McD's was still open but we ate there in Indy. We wound up eating at FoxSports which was the only place left. There is dining at the Hyatt, but the pricing is in the Cali Grill range...

We have decided to try the Hyatt for our upcoming trip, but on our way home.

Every trip in the past, we have dreaded catching ME at 3 a.m. for our early flight home adding to the fact of paying deluxe prices for half a night, as well as the DDP for that final day when we won't even be there. We always end up staying awake all that night (not on purpose either!) and can hardly function by the time we get home. We are excited to think we can just wander downstairs and check in for our flight at a decent hour and arrive home without being totally exhausted from being up the entire night before.

My question is this...can we just catch any ME we want to the airport, or do we have to book the bus we want in advance? I would appreciate any advice others might have.

TIA

We've done this twice. Once we stayed in the airport and hopped on the first ME bus of the morning. The next time, we had points at Marriott so we took their shuttle from the airport, spent the night there, got their first shuttle of the morning back to the airport and hopped on ME to go to WDW.

The only thing that you would have to do for that is make sure to *not* put your ME luggage tags on your bags.

We've never done it that way, but you do have to schedule a time for transport to the airport (most of the time for us it's been vans rather than buses because of time). I think all you'd have to do is tell them when you want to go to the airport and it could be arranged.
