We returned from a fabulous week at the Poly on Tuesday night. After so many negative posts about the Poly before we left I just wanted to send up a note and say -- you will not be disappointed staying at the Poly. Our first stay was in GV at Hawaii and I was concerned we might be disappointed with just a standard GV room. We were not. Concierge is nice but the resort is so fantastic we didn't miss it. Our only requests were a non-smoking room with a balcony. Our room was 2nd floor with a balcony, Tokelau non--pool side. I admit I was disappointed at first --but the location worked out great. The building and our room were spotless, quiet and convenient and I would gladly stay there again.

Hurricane Damage--everything was cleaned up by our arrival but there was quite a bit of bruised and damaged shrubbery around the resort. Many of the large or taller trees were sporting numerous fresh cuts. The resort is so lush and beautiful I would expect by next spring there will be no remnants of the storm.

The "poly smell" I hate to even address this but, my two cents----twice (only twice) when we entered the building in late afternoon at the hotest point of the day there was that stale stagnant smell of a building that's air conditioning wasn't keeping up. I would guess there had been a lot of traffic in and out of the building or a door had been stuck open. That's it. Absolutely no problem in the room. And we did have a couple of extremely hot days. I would tell anyone regardless of their asthma, allergies or what not -- no need to worry. (I had absolutely no trouble with my allergies until about 15 minutes after we left the airport in WI. Reason #79 on my list about why we should move south.)

Just a last note --- anyone with young kids, I just cannot imagine staying anywhere else. Transportation here is such a dream and so convenient. There is so much to do and see for the kids without ever leaving the resort. The Poly is a total escape. I don't know if this makes sense or not. I was sitting at the volcano pool on our last night and looked off towards the GF to see the monorail traveling along towards MK and I just panned around the monorail loop. The colors, buildings and landscape are so perfect you feel as if you are sitting in a fantasy come to life. A forever Poly fan I am!

I am glad to hear the few negative reports did not make you change your mind. It is very peaceful there and it is hard to describe the feeling of sitting on the beach at the Polynesian that cannot be beat by any other resort.

Thanks for letting us know how it went.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks for your report. We are going to the Poly for the first time in November. I also am staying in Tokelau and am so excited!!! I hope that our trip is as wonderful as yours sounded!! I am so thankful to all on these boards, especially Tikiman for all the wonderful insights and help about the Poly! Can't wait!! Even though I couldn't get a BAS, BAT, or EWP discount applied to my ressie, I'm still happy to be staying there.

Shhhh...we don't want word of how great the Poly is to get out! ;)

Glad you had a wonderful stay!

Aloha Cousin!

Yay, that's the Poly I love! It seems that you have the same feeling I do when staying there. There is an indescribable feeling when I walk into the GCH that first day that blows me away every time. And ahh the Beach, could it be anymore beautiful? I swear within 5 minutes of checking in I am totally relaxed. Glad you liked your longhouse, our goal is to stay in everyone, so far we stayed in Somoa, Tuvalu and Niue; Tokelau is on our short list for this time along with Fiji. Thanks again for the review!

::yes:: Yes, the Poly is W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L - I am so glad you enjoyed your stay there.

It's amazing how the Poly is in the heart of the magic yet is a total escape like you said.

We truly find it to be a piece of heaven right here on earth. Can't wait to be back there in 8 weeks!!!

Debbie

Hi everyone we stayed this past Sat. at the Poly in the Tokelau Longhouse. We had a great GV room on the bottom floor. When we walked out our patio there was the lagoon and the Contem. If you walked out a few steps there was the castle. There were these cute ducks that were right outside our room and our 3 month old just loved looking at them. We ate at ohanas and yummmmmmmm is all we can say. It sure was easy just pushing our stroller on to the monrail and zipping over to the MK. We enjoyed the Spectro parade Sat evening. We enjoyed Epcot the next day before heading on home.. boy was it hotttttttttttt. Thanks Tikiman and others for the great info... the Poly is indeed a magical place..:earsboy:

We just returned from a fantastic and relaxing time at the Poly. We also were in a first floor GV room in Tokelau. It was so much fun having coffee in the morning before my family woke up on the patio looking at the ducks, the Contempory, monorail and the ferry boats. Not to mention the fun pools and the Lava Flow drink while relaxing on the beach. It makes me happy just to think about our trip. I am already dreaming of our next trip.:p :p

So nice to read this thread. November will be our first trip to the Poly too. I'm really looking foward to it but somewhat concerned about getting a room 'close' to everything.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

So good to hear this report! We arrive on 10-8 after staying at WL for two days. I spoke with a CM this afternoon, requested Samoa, volcano view, ground floor. I'm more psyched than my kids!  :hyper: :hyper:

I hate reading these Poly threads yet I can't skip them! All them just make me go crazy thinking of being back at the Poly! I love sitting in the pool and looking out over the water to the castle. I love the wonderful smell of the gardenias wafting by and that music! I have 5 loooooooooong weeks to go before I go back to my second home! I am glad you had such a good time. I can't imagine anyone NOT having a great time at the Poly!
