We were there Nov 28-Dec 6th. We had two lagoon view concierge rooms on the third floor. I agree that being on the third floor was still very convenient to the lounge, there is an entrance on the third floor that goes into the lounge into a loft type area, and then there are open stairs down into the lounge itself.
Anyway. We definitely saw doors with no smoking signs on them. I can't recall if our rooms had the signs or not, and I never smelled smoke anywhere, in our room or in the halls.
As for the view, we had room 3512 and it was awesome! I now prefer the third floor over first. The view of the castle was better being higher up. (and I think they have trimmed some trees from the island that used to block it) We could leave our curtains open all night and it was so nice to be able to open my eyes and see the castle right from the bed! Dd missed being able to play on the beach which she did when we had first floor, but I actually didn't miss that at all, LOL. Now, the second room we had was one room down from ours towards the lounge--there was one room inbetween us--and their view was of--a big fat palm tree. Since it was grandma and grandpa's room, they didn't care too much, since the kids had the view in our room, lol. You could only see the castle from their room if you stood on the balcony all the way to the side, or bent down to the floor. I have to say, if I got that room, I would be very disappointed, and would ask to change in a minute!
Oh, and just so you know, I didn't fax a room request, I decided to just go with the flow this time and see what we would get. I think that you will have more success if you tell them what is important to you rather than asking for a specific room number--say, a castle view, or fireworks view, or on the first floor so the kids can run on the beach, second floor near the lounge, second floor because you don't want a balcony, whatever.
