Poly Concierge: LV vs GV

To Lagoon View or not to Lagoon View? That is the question...

The Polynesian Hawaii Longhouse where the Poly concierge rooms/lounge is still being refurbished and won't be opened in time for this trip (opens again on Oct. 17th?).

So I'm planning ahead for the next one.

Do I need to worry too much about getting the LV rooms for fireworks and EWP when the concierge lounge apparently has the view as well as the themed music piped in?

Are the garden view at the Hawaii rooms noisy, being that close to the smaller Poly pool?

Decisions, decisions...

We haven't stayed at poly concierge, but have stayed in Tokelau garden view which overlooks the quiet pool, and we did not find it to be noisy at all.

I love to watch the castle change colors at night

I also enjoy being steps from the beach--I like to take a book out to one of the chairs for a couple hours each afternoon, and it's nice to be able to do so right through your patio door (if you're on the first floor) as opposed to going out and around.

Anne has great points about LV and I would add that the lights of the GF and CR at night add to the magic of that view and it's nice to walk to your windows to watch the Electrical Water Parade each night. We do find that view to be busier as there are often people walking along the path between the building and the lake.

Gardenview is very quiet and beautiful in our experience. The path on that side isn't busy at all and the pool is perhaps 30 yards away. I don't think we ever heard any noise from it. You can't really see the pool itself from Hawaii but rather the heavy landscaping, tiki torches, etc. that surround it.

We love both views. I don't think you can go wrong. We're going back in November and I can hardly wait!

Just got back from LVC and I have to admit that watching the castle change colors, feeding the ducks from our balcony, watching the ferry boats cross the lagoon during the day and all lit up at night, seeing the electric light water pagent, and watching the sun come up over the beach all from our balcony is pretty special. I don't think that our experience would have been what it was from the other side of the building.

When hubby called trying to get an AP rate for our November trip for WL, he also asked about the Poly. He got the idea that they were no longer offering you a choice until check in. He asked if a particular room was lagoon or garden and she said that there was no choice and that it was going to be a new policy. Now this could be a line she was giving because they were super swamped that day. Who knows, but that is what we heard.

I can't believe that there would be no choice between LV and GV. LV is significantly higher in price than GV even with an AP rate. Maybe what she meant was that there was only one type of room available during specific dates. I don't think people will pay LV rates for a GV room. I know I wouldn't.

We're staying GVC and I was hoping to upgrade to LV when the AP rates came out - but there was nothing available, so I'm happy with GV at an excellent price

Still hoping for an upgrade in-resort though

I stayed LVC last Oct and it was magical but I thought if I stay again I'll try GV. I just made a reservation for Jan and you know what I did? LV!!! I just couldnt stand the thought of not seeing the castle from the room. But I do have 3 kids (4,3,1) and I was sure I'd be stuck in the room at 6pm with one of them asleep and I wanted a view. It was a photo of the whole lagoon lit up at night that convinced me-not just the castle but GF & CR too.

Even though I had the LV last year we still went to longe to see fireworks 1 night. The view was better and music was great.

If a LV wasn't available or not discounted I'd certainly try the GV.

I know that GV concierge generally faces the quiet pool, but do any of the rooms closer to the lounge face the volcano pool? Also, does the pathway between lagoon and Hawaii run the whole length of Hawaii? Oh yeah, 1 last ?...Does the concierge reception area(level 1) open up to(or have a staircase)the 2nd floor lounge?

I've just discovered that whether or not we decide on GV vs. LV, the 2nd floor of the Hawaii longhouse has no balconies (already knew this) and that the entire 3rd floor is now the smoking floor. Is this true? NS also means no balcony?

Sad *and* Grumpy! :lol:

BTW, until the refurbishes are done, rooms at the Poly are at a premium. Makes getting particular room requests more difficult.

Edit: Why wouldn't WDW add 2nd floor balconies during the refurbish?

The volcano pool is at a 90 degree angle to the room view, so no, sorry no view. And yes, there is a stairacase

Regretfully you can't just stick a balcony on--it would require welding the support beams to the load bearing beams in the building. Generally balconies are built by extending the horizontal I-Beams out past the walls during initial construction, or using ground support beams which are then intrusive into the patio space of the rooms below.

Not saying it couldn't be retrofitted, but it would cost a fortune and not be recoupable.
