Poly add on?

We joined dvc last year through resale. We just happened to book our first vacation as DVC owners next week, when dvd is beginning the poly preview. We received an invite to the preview and rsvp'd. I am finding that I'm more excited about being one of the first to see the poly rooms and potentially becoming a poly owner. I have a question or two. Do you get anything for being an original owner at dvc resort? Is there a minimum amount of points to add on? You don't have to explain to me how the point system works. I know I wouldn't want to buy less than the number of points than I would like to stay whether it's every year or every other year.

Also, I understand the value of resale over direct, so please don't explain that. Lastly, I don't need a lesson in finances. I purchase luxuries based on what I can afford.

You may get some kind of a discount ,you may get none . But let us know when you get back .

When the VGF went on sale, existing members were given an opportunity to buy before the general public was.

Their perk was 2 fold, 145 per point, as opposed to 150 when it "officially" went on sale. Also they were able to book earlier (when they made the purchase). All new purchases had to wait until 9 am June 23rd 2013 to book.

Of course, they do not have to do anything "special", but the probably will.

I believe the minimum add on is 25 points.

Now for my lessons in finance and resale vs. direct:

Just kidding ;)

Try and take some pics, I for one would love to see!

Hope I answered your question

25 is the minimum as usual.

there may also be minimums for being considered a "founding member" (if that is even a thing - i don't think they did anything for VGF) or discounts (where you might get $5 or $10 off per pt if you buy a certain number of pts.)

You don't have to explain to me how the point system works. I know I wouldn't want to buy less than the number of points than I would like to stay whether it's every year or every other year.

great, because some knucklehead always reads these posts and thinks "so if i buy 200 SSR pts and 25 poly pts, maybe i can use all of them at poly at 11 months out..." but it's good that you know that you can't... ;)

We toured the BLT rooms at the sales center and bought some contracts there. When the resort finally opened, we didn't really care for the place. Have stayed there a few times and it still isn't one of our favorites.

So... just because you may like the model with pixie dust in your eyes, you may not like the resort.

Yep. You get a very big bill. And you're one of the few owners at that resort to actually get 50 years worth of time to use the purchase.

One other thought- be very careful about use year when a resort first opens. DVC can only give current UY points for a certain date from when the resort is declared and opens. Some buyers at VGF were pretty upset when their new contract didn't come with current February points, but had the first points available in the next UY.

One can anticipate that since Poly is opening sales in January, that means every 2015 UY will have points. But don't count on the contracts having current available (2014) points. Wait and see. and be very clear from the guide what points you will be getting. It would be a bummer to spend that kind of money and not receive any points until several months into the future after you close.

Actually I'm not so sure although sales start in January the resort doesn't open until April so I don't see anyone getting February points.

The minimum add on for VGF was 25 but I remember takes if guides being very aggressive in talking people out of buying 25 points as they couldn't be used for much.

Thanks for the responses. I will post pictures. However, i recommend tikimann's site. I am pretty sure there will be poly preview pictures there soon after the preview assuming pictures can even be taken.

Yeah, I know that it may not my favorite resort, but I feel if I am paying for poly prices, I would think I would skip the parks for a day and I can imagine I would like relaxing for a day in the plunge looking out over the water.

I just spoke with my guide and he said they can't release point price until Monday, but we will be very "happy" with what is offered - whatever that means popcorn::

That means "We are Disney, therefore you will like it"

Evidence is suggesting a more point expensive DVC than the VGF. I do not know who is going to "like that"

What evidence?

The documents filed with the orange county comptroller's office states a minimum point guarantee for a night in a studio to be 22 for standard view, and 26 for lake view.

It is my understanding that VGF declared 22, and did not differentiate between std and lake view.

It is my interpretation that this means, all the points for 1 standard view studio, for all "use days" averaged out will be 22. 26 for a lake view.

Which is equal to or more than the VGF

I think it means that the price per point fort he POLY will be less than the ppp for the VGF - at least during the short period they'll be selling only to current members.

Probably. They just bumped up VGF prices so that they can pre-sell at what they had that priced at and tell you what a bargain it is and that they did that due to member demand. ;)

I think it will. VGF opened much later in the calendar year just like VGC and it was only the earliest UYs that did not have current years points.

VGF opened in October. My UY is April. I Bought in early June. I got points the first year (April points) despite opening being 5 months away.

I see no reason people could not get a FEB UY and get points this year.

The first use year that can be sold involves a two step evaluation. Nothing can be sold that begins before the date of the filing of the Declarations with the Orange County Comptroller and those were filed for Poly on January 7, 2015. That means the first use year cannot be earlier than Feb 2015. The second evaluation is that they cannot sell a use year for any given unit at the resort if there is a risk the unit itself will not be available for occupancy during the initial use year that is sold. If the realistic opening date is April 2015, Disney could, if it wants to, make Feb 2015 the earliest use year.

For BLT, the Declarations were filed in Sep 2008 , sales began in Oct for an intial use year in Feb 2009 with an estimated opening date of Sep 2009 (it actually opened in Aug). Selling any use year before Feb was too risky because of the possibility the opening date could be delayed up to a few months beyond Sep. For VGF, the Declarations were filed in March 2013, the first use year available was April 2013, and the resort opened in Oct.

Any idea on prices for the new Poly resort? What is the limit to buy in? I so want to buy there...Have purchased twice with AKL. But would love to buy into Poly, but don't know if I can afford it...
