Tomorrow I'm on Polling Day duty in one of the local Polling Stations. I've never done this before, so I'm quite looking forward to it, but I know it's going to be a very long day!

I have to report for duty by 6:30am and don't finish until 10:00pm, so I've packed lots of books and magazines, made a pile of sandwiches and I'm taking my own camping chair and cushion! Apparently there are only 180 registered electors for the 'patch' that I'll be on, so I can't see that we'll be exactly rushed off our feet! ;)

What I would really like is a laptop to take along so that I could spend all day on the boards! ;)

Good luck for tomorrow :D We will be popping along after work. You could take a copy of the Brits guide with you ;)

180! ...... and if you get a low turn out  !!!

That's one long day Hilary - I wish you luck and I hope you are taking really good reading material with you......... and that whoever you are with is good company!

I've done this Hilary, it's fun. It's especially fun during the big Presidential elections.

I've done it too, Hilary. I've also done the counting many times in my early banking days (apparently we count quickly!). Let's just say that the counting is about a thousand times more interesting than the Polling Station duty. Don't want to be too discouraging, but I think you are right to take along plenty to keep you occupied.

Tomorrow I shall be on the second day of a course, which some bright spark arranged at the Holiday Inn in the centre of Bristol. It took me 1 1/4 hours this morning for what would have been a 30 minute journey outside rush hour - the M32 was a car park! Then there was an accident on the M32 on the way home, so it took me an hour to get home. Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. Not. I shall think of you. Not sure which of us is worse off.

Have a good day Hilary, hope you got a good book ;)

No voting for us, woo-hoo !!

Well, it was a very long day, but I would be quite happy to do it again, if required, so it can't have been too bad!

Of our 188 registered electors, we had about 75 in to vote which put us at slightly higher than the national average turn-out. Over the 15 hours of polling this worked out at an average of one voter every 12 minutes  I got a lot of reading (and quite a bit of chatting ;) ) done.

Deb - hope you managed to survive your course!
