Poll: Would You Travel To Aulani?

I would love to go to Aulani this year, but our travel schedule is full - not to mention that I want to see how Hawaii’s testing requirements shake out! We are tentatively planning a trip to Hawaii in December 2021 and hope to include Aulani then.

We were planning to book for late May, early June but COVID end that dream.

I will not fly to 2022. Plus, money got real tight!!

I would go without hesitation. But thinking of making it a 2022 or 2023 trip with friends.

We've been, but I wouldn't go right now. Long flight, Hawaii covid restrictions. I don't know if we will actually ever return though. We loved it, but we really love Kauai and have been to Oahu twice.

We have a May trip booked that we really hope to be able to take but need a few things to go right for that to happen. The trip starts with DL and then to Aulani and we're coming from Canada. First the border needs to open, then DL & Aulani. Without all of those happening we won't be able to take that trip. We don't really have any concerns with the travel aspect, just need things open and prefer to not have to quarantine 2 weeks upon returning home.

I saw this poll is posted in the Aulani thread, too. Like someone posted there, I'm also concerned about the 3 day test in terms of time, cost and consequence.
- Time: There's only hours before a trip to get a test and receive results to determine whether you can/should travel.
- Cost: Some people do not have access to the test accepted by Hawaii, and the proper tests can be prohibitively expensive. The costs are bouncing around according to a capitalistic model, not public health. (Think cost of flu shot vs. cost of Covid test.) Could I afford the test multiplied by my travel party?
- Consequence: If I receive the results just before I travel and it's positive, what happens to all the work vacation time, hotel costs/expiring points, flights- especially in those cases where I may not be able to use a future travel credit. If I receive the results while in transit or in Hawaii, I'm confined to the room. Is there room service? The consequence of a documented positive test is significant.

I agree that Hawaii does not have the health service infrastructure to take on its island inhabitants plus tons of tourists if an outbreak occurs. It's not fair to the inhabitants to get shut out of a hospital because tourists start to weigh on the system. So I understand the value and necessity to establish safer criteria for travel. I also understand tourism economy- I grew up in a city that relied on tourism.

I think Hawaii's approach underscores the epidemiological importance in Covid19 transmission. We could have several asymptomatic travelers flying a long distance to a place with limited resources. I could "feel fine" and suddenly learn that I'm positive, because I needed the test to travel. Then (hopefully) there's a cascade of consequence- my close contacts are notified, I change my interactions and behaviour to limit exposure to others, I monitor the progression of my positive status. All that wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been tested. It's why I believe communal testing is a key to better health in our communities throughout the country. Hawaii may be helping to demonstrate it.

EDIT to ADD: I have a Nov'20 reservation I'm pondering to cancel because of the time, cost, consequence. Plus, we have no idea what the food/pool logistics will be on-site, getting to other food sources/events off-site, and what happens to persons who end up in a room-quarantine circumstance?

Plus, half of my points for the Nov'20 ressie could be used instead for the Mar'21 DIS reunion. .... And let's face it, with my lack of tech-know-how, the party at SW:GE is probably the ONLY way I'm going to get to ride RotR! :cutie:

We moved our May 2020 vacation to Christmas week. It's always been a bucket list item to spend Christmas in Hawaii. Honestly, I didn't expect we'd even have an option as I didn't expect Hawaii to open.

As of now, we plan to go. I've always been diligent about cleaning the plane and our hotel room when we travel and it has definitely helped us stay healthy. I'd rather get on a plane to Hawaii when everyone has been tested than a flight to Florida with no test requirements. We are flying from AZ so the flight and time difference is managable. And getting tested here is easy and many options are free. And I will lose over 200 points if we don't go.

That being said, we will be watching the status of cases and cancel if we don't feel comfortable traveling.

I am not going to travel all that way to find out businesses and tours aren’t operating because of restrictions. Furthermore I have zero desire to be stuck in a mask for an entire 13 hr flight. Until restrictions get severely loosened I won’t be going.

I would like to return to Hawaii, but I have no desire to go to Aulani. I would only go to Oahu long enough to fly to Maui or the Big Island.

I personally won't bother as long as any state restrictions are still in place, including testing.

Looking at going in January of 2022!!! We are in deep trouble if restrictions are still in place by then.

No. For one reason, I have no desire to be on an airplane for that length of time. But I’m also not willing to subject myself to testing for vacationing purposes.

I love Aulani, and intend to go there again, but it's the length of the flight that has the most concern for me. I recognize that most airlines actually do have good air filtering systems, but I would not want to be in an enclosed space with other passengers for that length of time.

We have a trip planned to WDW in December and already have concerns just over that 3 hour flight.
