I am traveling this summer , and I was wondering what seasick measures did everyone take if any. Why I am asking is last February I went on a cruise and it was very rocky the first night and ended up not feeling well. And I want to be able to enjoy this cruise with no worries.
P.S. I was the only one in my family that was sick. I do have a sensitive stomach.

Any help would be greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I use the patch. I'm out on boats scuba diving pretty frequently and never get onboard without a patch.

I also use the Relief Band and TripTone (a nausea med) in addition to the patch as needed.

We just got back last week from a 4 day Wonder and I was sick almost the entire time. It was worse on the first day/night and last night. I have a very queasy stomach and head and was on a perscription called "serc" (I'm in canada) which helped just didn't completely take it away. My husband was OK but my 3 kids all felt it at some point in the trip (although not through it all).

We actually slept with the veranda doors open to get fresh air in (and it was fresh as it was very cold at nights). If we were able to get some air the feelings subsided a little. Also when ever I was in a cramped place it was worse (i.e. washrooms).

It also helps to stay away from others who are sick. On the first night a couple people threw up in Animators restaurant and when I took my daughter to the washroom people were throwing up in the sinks and toliets (we got out of there as soon as we could - only to find another bathroom with the same thing).

I saw a lot of patches on the cruise as well.

Currently I am still dealing with "sea-legs" and hoping it will end soon. It is not as much in the legs as a dizzy feeling.

Maybe it was the time of year, maybe I am just not a true "sailor". Sorry as I may not have been much help - but I wish you luck!

I passed out Bonine to DH, DSs, and took one myself every single morning of the cruise and none of us got sick. Bonine works great as a preventative, so if you opt to use it, start taking it at least the day before the cruise.

P.S. If you have young kids, be sure to ask their pediatricians first :)

My wife and I use the Dramamine Less Drowsy pills. They are good for 24 hours, take at night before going to bed and your good for the rest of the next day. I get queasy if I don't take them my wife gets sea sick. These work for the both of us on our last two cruises.

I agree with SeaSpray. Bonine is the way to go. I can't read in the car or ride roller coasters, so I knew I would be more prone to being seasick. I took this last year and the only time I felt a little "green" was on the boat while parasailing. By the way, I gave DD10 the Dramamine Less Drowsey and she was pretty out of it. I'll NEVER do that again. :sad2:

I'm actually taking a Bonine right now because tomorrow will be a "wonder"ful day!!!!!

Give me the SeaBands!!

I have tried Bonine, Dramamine and the patch. I was either unconscious or in such a fog I could barely function. I know everyone is different, but if you take cold medicine and have problems you might want to try SeaBands first. I can't take antihistamines, I end up feeling the same way.

Although when I took the Bonine, I also didn't eat. It was the first cruise I took that I lost weight. :bounce:

I sailed on the Wonder last week. I used both Bonine and Sea Bands and still felt queasy the whole time. Don't know if I want to use the patch and try another cruise or just stay on land. I have used the patch for flying but it blurred my vision and couldn't read the whole time.

This is a very common problem and easily avoidable. The patch medicine can make some a little drowsy and people tend to rub or touch their face when they are tired. If the medicine gets on your hands, it will eventually find it's way to your face & eyes. The patch medicine dilates your eyes when coming in contact with them and that make your vision blurry.

I wear a flexible fabric bandaid or a piece of waterproof first aid tape over the patch. Completely cover it and wash your hands prior to make sure you don't get any medicine on the tape/bandaid cover. That will solve the blurry problem.

Honu,

The idea to put something over "the patch" is a very good one. We cruise April 24th and I bought enough of them for the whole family if needed.

I know I will need it because on my first cruise I was so sick I was trying to figure out how to get a flight home when we docked at our first port. Luckily my Aunt was up on deck and met a Lady who had an extra patch. I put it on and from the next morning on I felt fine.

For me it is the only way to go. I will have an extra one with me on our April 24th 4 day Wonder cruise in case I get a chance to help out someone who is suffering.

Can someone give me more details about the Seabands? Where do you get them and how quick do they work?
