Inspired by the discussion about tipping, and the debate DH and I had at the end of the cruise. What do you suppose is the message behind the tipping amounts?
If you tip the "suggested amount" is that considered a measure of good to excellent service, or just "average" service?
I assumed that it meant average service. A tip above the recommended would mean excellent, and a tip way above would mean exemplary. By the same measure, I imagined any tip below the suggested amount would indicate sub-average service with a substantially lower amount meaning poor service.
DH believes the suggested tip is suggestive of excellent service and that "average" service deserves a slightly lower than suggested price. He also argued that when cruising with Disney excellence should be expected as par for the course, thus only exemplary service should be rewarded with an above suggested tip amount. He points out that I am always erring on the side of generous tipping (in terms of additional gratuities on drinks, I tended to tip almost to the value of the drink which my dh thinks is way unreasonable and he is probably right. Then again, I'm the person that starts cleaning up the table and under the table after a meal with our kids in a restarant. Being served doesn't come easily to me!)
