Someone posted this on another thread: "Florida governor had a press conference today--- Governor Desantis just had an excellent Press Conference. Spike in cases due to more testing and contact tracing. Cases are 20 and 30 somethings mostly asymptomatic. Hospital capacity and ICU beds have more capacity than April. It’s business as usual in Florida..." So sounds like Florida won't be closing down again---so that's a good sign for all us July folks!

I just read that Desantis adjusted his original thoughts and now says it is not because of more testing, in light of recent events at bars, etc. and that people are not wearing masks.

I'm a "July folk" and I don't see this as a good sign at all. I'm not being political here, but the numbers that are happening are NOT just due to increased testing. Young, asymptomatic people are still carrying and spreading the virus. You are seeing exponential growth that exceeds Desantis' own self-proclaimed "safe" number of 10% positive. This has disaster written all over it. I don't believe that Desantis will shut things down, but Disney is not going to allow people to get sick/die as a result. It would murder their brand. I'm from NY and saw first hand how one week of inaction in a population center can have catastrophic effects. I hope that the spread slows and that Disney indeed opens, but I for one would not be surprised if the July 11th we are all anticipating never happens.
I'm sorry...I totally didn't mean to sound insensitive...I meant it's a good sign for those of us who are hoping to still go this July. I do believe this is of course a personal decision for everyone here. I definitely didn't mean to offend anyone.

The AP extension sucked us in. Our AP expired in March, but the extension’s sudden appearance in MDE this week got us fired up. It was a shot of fun dropped in our laps after months of Zoom school, lockdown, and national torment. We’re staying 7/12-7/14 at OKW and 7/14-717 at CCV.

And that's just it. People (including other family members) think we are crazy for still wanting to go with the Florida numbers rising and the talk of it being the 'next hot spot' but what most fail to understand (outside of groups like this) is exactly what WDW means to us. After being told to stay indoors for months, hearing constant death reports, distance learning, graduations cancelled, it gives us SOMETHING to look forward to. It is like a light at the end of the tunnel even though we know, with all of the restrictions in place it is not a return to normalcy yet. It is very hard to give that up.

No worries. I didn't think you were insensitive at all. I am, like most, just very tense about the whole situation. 😬

You should look up the governor's comments from Saturday yourself.. that's not what he said at all.

He actually acknowledged.. for the first time.. that the rise in cases cannot be explained by increased testing (which honestly any dummy could have already told you). He expressed concern that there are things taking place currently that need to change..

He does acknowledge that the increase in cases is being seen mostly in young, healthy people. That's not a good thing for Disney's reopening m these are the kinds of people I expect will be first in line to visit the parks upon reopening.

You can't spin this news as a positive, and it's upsetting that someone posted the misinformation that you quoted (perhaps they were summarizing his previous comments prior to Saturday?)

I’m curious about the makeup of the people who will go early on. Given Disney’s clear consistent message about the required mitigation efforts, I am hoping that only people who are willing to be careful and compliant will attend. I may be naive about that. I may be telling myself that to feel safer about going with my family in July. I am kind of hoping to enter a “Disney Bubble.”

I’m in the same boat as you. AP expired in April and now we have until mid August. Trip booked 7/27 to 8/1. Basically free flights because our April trip got cancelled and now I have a bunch of travel funds from southwest to use. I think Disney will be safer than most places in Florida due to the mask requirement and I’m sure WDW has never been cleaner. With restricting park and resort entry, there won’t be tons of random people entering property each day, well, maybe except for Disney Springs. I really want to go, but am basically waiting until the last minute to decide. Thankfully Disney’s current cancellation policy allows for the last minute cancellation. Also we will see what park reservations we are able to get tomorrow. Lastly, I’m booked for CBR, haven’t heard if it will be open or not, if we’ll get moved, or if they’ll just cancel us anyway. I’m a huge planner so this up in the air business is rough!!! 🤪

With a mid-July arrival, I too am curious. But my curiosity lies less with the people in attendance and more with the cast members. With the exponential increase in cases, my curiosity is with cast members. Most fall within the demographic that is responsible for the increase. Are they going to bars and clubs? Are they wearing masks outside of Disney property? If the spike turns into an uncontrollable outbreak, they are the ones that can topple this whole thing. And I understand that they will be required to wear masks, but if they are asymptomatic (which is the norm), will that be enough? Will they take them off when off stage, and will they be diligent in hand washing and other measures? So many questions.

Was able to get my park passes for the three days of tickets I currently have.

7/11 - Magic Kingdom
7/13 - Animal Kingdom
7/15 - Hollywood Studios

Now to continue trying to get an additional three days of tickets since I extended my trip. Took nearly 2 hours to get through to make the park reservations, but once I did they immediately showed up on my MDE app. Still can't access "My Plans" on the website.

I also was able to get my park reservations--I've been on hold this morning waiting to see if I can get my resort modified as I learned yesterday my resort would not be open...

We originally had our trip for early June. We moved in to early July before any announcements were made. We then cancelled before any opening date was set. I want to go so badly. We have 55 points we need to use or we will lose them. There are so many days I am SOOOO tempted - but nope. Not doing it. I had a feeling things were going to start exploding in the states that opened early (including the one I am living in) and I was right. You couldn't pay me to go anywhere right now. I am in a higher risk group due to a heart defect and high blood pressure. I want to still be around to enjoy Disney when this virus thing is behind us. If I get the virus - I don't think I will be. So I am being VERY careful.

I changed my vote to planning to go - resort guest since I got our reservations this morning! :tigger: Now if I only knew where we were staying... Lol

This morning was nuts, but I got my July passes. The system is still screwed up and won't let me get my passes for September / May and the phone system is down.

My park passes:
Epcot, DHS, MK, AK, DHS, MK, AK

Congratulations on getting your park reservations! I also was able to secure mine! Sending you good vibes on securing your Disney resort reservations...

For when the parks are open, we are July 22-26 and we are still going. It is an adults only trip so we can check it out without the kids first. We are at Riviera the first night, then we were booked at Gran Destino but we got moved to a cabin at Ft Wilderness. We got our park reservations booked yesterday. No issues except the wait. 2 Epcot days for F&W, 2 HS days, and an MK day.

We also have a resort only stay, all 4 of us, June 28-July 5, Bwv/Poly split.

Is there any charge for the change? We are early August with a Split stay Gran Destino CL/Poly. I kept getting different answers from different CMs the last few weeks.

Generally, if you keep the same dates they will move you for free. But you have limited choices, they try to match you with something that has a similar “rack rate”. If you get downgraded you should get a refund.
