I was reading another forum and it made me wonder what the majority of people do on vacation in regards to food. Whether they cook all the time in their Villa, or if they are like me and eat out all the time?

I NEVER cook! Park of the joy is to be released from the drudgery of having to prepare 21 meals a week, isn't it? :stir: We don't even do cereal in the room, & I just factor it in as part of the cost of being on vacation. :cloud9:

We usually do breakfast in the room. It's just easier for us to grab a bowl of cereal or a pop tart(my kids breakfast of choice) and then be ready to get on with our day. We have done some character breakfasts from time to time, but it takes so much time out of our morning.

Only this morning I was remembering last January when we stayed in a villa for the first time at OKW. My husband made everyone a big breakfast almost every morning. The guys loved it. Our next three stays were at home at SSR. Now my husband is the first one out the door in the morning to AP for his breakfast. I think the difference is the smaller kitchen. I don't mind, I love eating out!

It's probably between 25-50% although I voted 25%. Sometimes we eat breakfast in and other times we don't. Sometimes we eat out, get take out or whip up sandwiches for a light dinner.

Mostly for us, it's just breakfast in the villas. In December we had friends who brought loads of lunchmeat fixens, so we augmented their food with some chili/fries from Roaring Forks and ate lunch in the villas as well. I voted 25% because sometimes we go out all of the time.

I tell DH that the villas will seem like home when I can barbecue hambergers and eat out on a picnic table, but that's not his idea of "home." I suppose with all of the condiments, it would be lots of stuff to bring and have left over, but that's my dream meal at our DVC!

Bobbi :)

I also voted never. We usually have coffee(dh) and diet coke(me) :rotfl: for a quick pick me up and then have a nice sit down lunch wherever we happen to be at that time. Dinner is usually off site at a nice restaurant.

I chose 25% but for our first and only trip so far, it was somewhere between 25% and 50%. Originally my DH was totally against eating any meals in the villa -- he wanted to eat out for every meal. But we spent the last 4 nights of this trip in a 1 BR at OKW and that nice open kitchen and the large table out on the veranda helped me to convince him that we should have most of our breakfasts in the villa. We ended up fixing 2 light dinners there as well.

We're vegetarians and need to eat heart healthy as well. Sometimes that's a challenge since at many restaurants the vegetarian selection includes a lot of cheese or other things DH should not be eating. The other problem is that some vegetarian options are completely protein free, and that just doesn't make for a satisfying meal. So having a full kitchen and a pleasant place to eat (nice dining area and the option of eating on the veranda) helped me to change DH's perspective.

On future trips, I see us eating most breakfasts and some simple dinners in our villa. It will allow us to stick more closely to our healthy eating plan, have meals on our schedule, enjoy some quiet time during meals, will save us some money and maybe we won't gain so much weight on our trips!

We eat out for almost every meal. We will eat a small breakfast so we can just eat and get to the parks. I am on vacation. I don't want to be cooking dinner.

I voted 0% even though it included 1 or 2 small meals during the whole trip. We don't even do that! NO COOKING ON VACATION FOR ME - otherwise it wouldn't be vacation!

We ALWAYS eat breakfast in the villa, and usually eat out one meal a day and if necessary have a second light meal in the villa, so I voted 25%, but in reality it is probably closer to 35-40%. It really depends on the trip and what guests we have with us. If we have guests who are on a tight budget, we prepare ALL the meals in, but usually we cook all meals only a day or two most times. I usually like fixing a nice home cooked dinner for our guests at least one night. It just feels more like home that way. I have even had guests who cooked for US!

I voted 25%.

We eat breakfast in our villa every morning but our check out day. DH gets up earlier than I do, so he usually makes himself some eggs and toast. When I get up, I usually eat a bowl of cereal.

We usually buy some lunchmeat on our grocery stop, our arrival day, and will make sandwiches the first day for lunch or dinner, depending on whether or not our villa is ready.

We (mostly DH) will heat up some kind of snack at night. Either some sort of pizza or leftovers.

We don't persay cook, as much as eat in the room. We normally stay in studios.

We eat snacks, breakfast and often a lunch or dinner in the room at some point of the stay. That is normally prepared food, sandwiches, or even left overs. It just is easier then making the kids sit at another resturant to eat (a difficult task for young kids 3 meals a day.) :teeth: Saves some money too.

As I was reading the replies, I noted that the "we never" to "we may cook a couple meals and all breakfasts" seem to follow the line of length of membership which is exactly what happened to us. After 7 yrs of DVC, we have tried most dining options and sometimes just hanging out at the pool or playing golf is our big day then we cook a simple meal, or grill when convenient. I noticed, the newer the members (noted in many trip histories) the less likely one is to want to stay in for meals. Gees, I must be getting OLD I told my DH he would never find me in that kitchen while we're on vacation :rotfl2:

We do breakfast in the room, which is a bowl of cereal for DD and breakfast bar for myself if you call that cooking, mostly because DH doesn't eat breakfast. Otherwise, we're enjoying the wonderful foods of WDW!!

I voted 25% b/c we do breakfast in the villa. But that is fruit, cereal, etc. I have never used the stove or the oven.

Funny, I am 28 and it was my BOC up until a year ago. They are in good company :-)

I would say 25% is the right choice. I would consider takeout the same as eating out. (Just my opinion)

Well I had to include 1 or 2 meals... We eat breakfast in villa once or twice usually.. other than that we are busying gaining weight at the beautiful disney restaurants... In truth, I have been to the parks SO many times (3 time CPer) that they hold little mystery to me (i still love them but I usually can get through all the new stuff or rehabs in a day if that is all I concentrate on). I love the restaurants because I haven't been to a lot of them and it gives me something new every trip. But then I can go to Disney and do nothing but parks Or go and never set foot in the parks (except on tours) and do all the other adventures and enjoy myself either way. I love going to the Wedding Pavillon, the Boardwalk, DTD, hopping on the monorail and exploring all the hotels. It is a blast.

We've been members for 5 years and I have never cooked a meal on vacation. And even though the rule is to "never say never", I can say with sincere honesty that I will NOT be cooking on vacation anytime soon. We've been dining in Disney for the past 12 years and have yet to tire of any of the dining options so far. Just my 2 cents.
