Just out of curiosity, how many DVC'ers own other timeshares. I have had one since 1981, and recently acuired one other one. Even though both pale in comparison to DVC, they have proven somewhat valuable through the years.

We owned a timeshare at a norhteastern ski resort. We sold it because the family wanted warmer weather for our February vacations so now we head to WDW and our DVC.

DVC was our first "tour" (1998) but we simply couldn't reach a "buy decision" at that time. The concept seemed good ... but we didn't want to purchase a timeshare that required cross-country travel for each use.

In 2000 we purchased WorldMark the Club (much closer to home!) and love it. WM is also a points based system offering 50+ resorts in US, Canada, Mexico, Fiji and Australia (through WM South Pacific). WM exchanges through both RCI and II ... and offers direct exchange options through affiliate relationships (select Fairfield locations and other resort groups). It is an enormously flexible system!

The next year we added an "every other year" week from the Grand Pacific Palisades (Carlsbad, CA). A short drive from our home, this ownership provides us year-round access to the fitness center, adult pool, family mini-waterpark, (etc) through their "day use" program. We tend to bank the resulting 1BR Summer week for trades through RCI or other exchange companies. (So far, each deposit has also earned a bonus week for us ... which we've put to good use!)

Shortly after the GPP - we picked up a week in South Africa simply for trading. It isn't a strong trading week ... but has met our expectations. (Great "value to dollar" ratio.)

Last summer we bought into Warner Springs Ranch. This has quickly become my favorite ownership. Our "half-share" gives us access every even month to horseback riding, golf, the hot springs pool, two cold pools, a full service spa, on-site restaurants, etc. The horseback riding is the big draw for me ... but eventually we'll get around to learning to golf. Too many things to do!

And finally ... this past January ... we came full-circle back to DVC. We now know that we do return to Orlando each year (sometimes twice!?!) and that owning DVC makes sense!

We love them all!

We purchased two other timeshares (HGVC & FS) before buying DVC. We enjoy our other timeshares and we plan to use them more often than our DVC timeshare. We bought DVC so we can use it for the occasional extended family trips whenever we want without having to negotiate a trade.

DVC is our only timeshare at the moment, but we are seriously considering buying another timeshare for our non WDW trips. We love DVC and it was the perfect way for us to become involved in the world of timeshare ownersip. One of the big selling factors for us was that the company was Disney and we felt more comfortable with that. We totally enjoy each and every DVC pt we own, but I think we have reached the point that we now have enough pts for WDW trips. Trading outside of DVC does not offer us the variety that another timeshare will, and it is also much more costly. So now we are in the market for a non DVC timeshare for our non WDW trips. We will always go to WDW at least 3xs a year and our existing dvc pts that we own have that covered but there is a great big world outside of WDW and we now want a timeshare for those trips.

I never really looked into timeshares before DVC, always thought they were kind of a rip off. Now I am hooked on the concept and thinking about looking into others. My siblings and I have had some discussions on jointly purchasing a condo somewhere. If we don't follow thru on this I will probably buy other timeshares.

If you looking, only buy resale. Check out www.tug2.net. It's full of great, free info. You can join for $15 a year and get to read the resort reviews.

We own 7 other weeks at 5 other time shares besides DVC. We own on Sanibel and Captiva which we will never trade, we own at Gatlinburg which we always trade, and one in North Carolina which we both trade and use.

We will never trade our DVC.

We purchase our first timeshare in 1982 on Singer Insland, Florida. We also had one in Vero Beach, Florida that we have since sold. We purchased DVC in 1992.

We have both DVC and HGVC. Our trip this January will kill off DVC for awhile though. I feel that we should have investigated more before getting into HGVC. Their "just like Disney" didn't quite ring true. Dues are not based on points, but on roomsize and season.

We've owned a timeshare in Key West since 1999. We will probably never trade (or sell!) that one! We just bought into DVC in October 2003 and will be making our first trip home to SSR this November for the Food & Wine Festival.

Does TUG update their classifieds on a specific day each week?

I found one for sale there last weekend that was a DEAL. I contacted the seller, but they already had a contract. I was so bummed....

Actually, I bought other timeshares both before and after DVC. I own at Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott. I always use my Sanibel week. The others I either use, or trade within their respective systems. That way, I have priority in all 3 systems.

We own DVC, Marriott, an Aruba week and a Mexico week for a total of 8 weeks/contracts. We've owned around 7 other week/contracts that we no longer have. It seems everytime I sell something, I find something else I want at a great price. All were bought resale except our last purchase, a week at the the new Marriott SurfWatch on HH. And in part that was because we could turn our two other Marriott weeks into points weeks as part of the purchase.

The date each item was posted is shown in the last column. It appears that updates are made several times each week.

As for responses, I posted a rental week earlier this year and had 5 responses w/in the first hour the entry hit the classifieds website. (Maybe I priced the week too low, hmm? ;))

:wave2: We bought a timeshare this year in Sarasota (Limetree). We bought our DVC (VB) last year.
We actually looked at limetree about 18 years ago but couldn't afford it then.
We got a great deal on a resale that couldn't be passed up. Kind of irranic that we had traded some DVC point to stay there before we bought. OH WELL!!!

Never owned another timeshare but are considering Marriott.

We purchased Vistana in 1988 but didn't purchase DVC until 2000. We never realized how great staying on property was until we stayed on site in 2000 at Dixie Landings. We checked out BWV and purchased then. We've added on there twice and also purchased at BCV. I don't think we would purchase anything other than DVC from now on.

Starting in 1998, we have bought and sold 5 Mexican resort contracts. We still own two weeks at Morritt's Grand Cayman and a Mount Amanzi (South Africa) week. The South Africa weeks were purchased by many TUG members over the last few years as a cheap RCI exchange week.

We purchased at BWV and did add-ons at VWL and BCV.

We owned a timeshare before we bought DVC in 1998, and we just bought another one last year (Starwood). So, I could have checked two categories if the poll had let us. I'm sure some savvy timesharers could have checked them all.
