We don't live in an area where fleas are a problem. The only time in 27 years of breeding and showing dogs that I have had a flea has been when we have traveled to dog shows in California and Florida. Now I just treat them when we travel to flea infested areas.
That's the problem with living down here in central Florida, fleas are the worst! And the squirrels in the yard definately don't help either! Makes me miss living up north
I tried Advantix on my puppy, and it didn't seem to work too well. Then I tried Frontline and it didn't seem to work too well. Right now, I just use flea shampoo and deflea him myself. He hates that. I might try Advantix or Frontline again this summer, since he seems to get fleas worse then. Someone told me they read the Advantix and Frontlines weren't too effective last year for some reason (I can't remember the reason).
We use Advantage. Tried Advantix and it didn't work at all. We don't use the Advantage regularly since it's so expensive and we don't have problems throughout the year...just every now and then during the summer. I put it on the dogs the minute I see one flea!
Last summer, when it got really bad (we were using frontline at the time) we also sprayed the yard with some stuff which really helped...but switching to Advantage was the best thing we did.
We use Dr. Somthing...smith maybe. Anyways, you order it from them directly, and it's GREAT! We used Frontline, and it works, but this is about half the price and still does the trick!
Fortunately fleas were never really an issue until recently when our neighbor got a dog and the poor thing is outside 24/7 so naturally there's going to be a few fleas out there. Even though both of our yards are fairly large, by the end of the summer they seem to find Shiloh!
That's when I break out the Frontline! It works great!
