OK trying to figure strategy regarding EMH, I have never really planned around them but have enjoyed a few evening EMHs with no problems- what is your EMH strategy

If I am traveling with my sister and her kids, we usually plan to be at a park that is not the EMH park. However, this October we are going to do our first night-time EMH. At the Magic Kingdom. It just fits into our plans this time. We are checking out of the Poly, swimming until noon, then going to check-in at the Beach Club Villas. Then hitting the Magic Kingdom until we are tired little Mousekteeers. I'm a little nervous, so wish us luck!!!

I voted that I don't plan around emh's at all. If I sleep in- I do try to avoid the am ones.

I really think you should only do the morning EMHs only if you have hoppers and can go to another park afterward. I LOVE the evening EMHs as we always go in off season and it's our only chance to be in the parks after dark.

We have never been to EMH...DH doesn't like them..I personally would love to attend one! Maybe I can talk DH into it on our upcoming trip!

We usually skip park with any EMH, as they usually draw a bigger crowd. But this trip, we might take advantage of EMH, especially the evening one.

I voted for first option, but it is really hit or miss for us. We are doing AK EMH morning on Monday (8/27) and  little ones EMH morning and EMH evening at MK on Sunday (9/3) We are hitting the parks hard every other day and having resort days in between (for the money we want to enjoy VWL).

We did EMH evening at MK last year during this time and could not believe how few people were there. It was great!

we NEVER miss an Evening EMH, but we don't plan for the AMs, if we wake up and we're ready to go we go, but if we don't no biggie :)

We're total night owls...we plan around the evening EMH...we love them!! Now the mornings we avoid like the plague. We hate getting up early in the morning. We njoy getting a late start to the parks. :)

I am new to the boards here. What is an emh? You all seem to have mastered this shorthand and i am just confused!

EMH: Extra Magic Hours

Here's how EMH works for all 4 Theme Parks.

Look up the POSTED open and close times
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/calendar/parkhours/index?id=MKCalendarParkHoursMonthlyViewPage
Pick your Park. Pick your Month.
>> Click on your DATE> <<
Disney publishes dates and times approximately 6 months in advance.
Make sure to check back often, as times and events are subject to change as the actual dates get nearer. The hours listed do NOT INCLUDE the EMH hour(s) so they would be in ADDITION to the posted hours.

For EMH, click on the WORDS > "Extra Magic Hours" < on the official calendar.
Or click HERE:

Only WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed EHM privileges and it COSTS NOTHING EXTRA to attend the EMHs.
There are slightly different situations for MORNING and EVENING EMH's.

-------MORNING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a MORNING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed entry to THAT park on THAT day starting ONE HOUR before the posted opening time.
At least ONE person in your party should have a room key-card with them (sometimes EACH person needs to show one) to verify your current hotel status and gain entry.
So, only WDW resort guests will be ALLOWED INTO the park.
Once inside, only selected attractions will be open.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

-------EVENING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a EVENING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed to stay and ride attractions at THAT park on THAT day for THREE HOURS after the posted closing time. (Don't worry that the site says, "UP TO 3 hours." Thats just legalese... EMH will be 3 hours in the evening.)
You do NOT have to be in the park BEFORE scheduled closing time.
You CAN enter the park at any time during EMH and still get a wrist-band.
You can leave and re-enter the park at will (just like any normal time).

(So, YES, if MK is sched. to close at midnight, the EMH will run til 3AM! Yep, that's 3 in the morning. No, its not a mistake, that would be 3 full hours after the posted time.)
At Epcot, all of the EMH attractions in both FW and WS will remain open. (Ignore FW's "7pm Closing Time".)

All adults and children 3 years and older will be issued a room key-card when you check in to your WDW resort (if they are listed on your ressie). If they are issued a key-card, you will have problems with EMH, because EACH guest (except for very small children) will need to show a room key-card to a CM at special "EMH kiosks" set up in various locations throughout the park. Kiosks are well-marked and are very easy to spot as you are walking in the parks. They open up these kiosks approx. 2 hours before the "regular" park closing time, and a wristband will be snapped on by the CM to each adult and child.
So make SURE the check-in desk issues EACH person in your party a room key-card. An adult can hold onto all the cards for the kids, but don't forget to bring the cards to the park.
Most nights the CMs will SCAN your room-key-card so that it can only be used to get a single wrist-band that evening. The ride CMs will then check for these wrist-bands at each attraction before allowing guests to enter the queue.
So, even though non-resort guests may still be INSIDE the park, only those with wrist-bands will be allowed to ride any open EMH attractions.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can enter the parks for EMH EVENINGS anytime... during "regular" hours, or even during the actual extended EMH hours.
This 1-hour morning EMH and 3-hour evening EMH rule applies at all 4 parks. Enjoy!

Welcome Bearette!

When I was new to the DIS boards a few years back, I felt like a stanger in a foreign land.:confused3 The "shorthand" takes some getting use to. Then, after a few months, the lingo becomes second hand. Take your time & enjoy the info!

Here's a little primer -

SM stands for Splash Mountain, not Small World.

IASW stands for Small World, abbreviated for it's formal name "It's A Small World".

CS is Conservation Station in Animal Kingdom (AK).

Or it could be Coronado Springs Resort (but that's usually referred to as CSR).

Wait! Maybe CS is used for Cirque du Soleil. Actually, that's probably more like CduS.

CF can stand for Chefs de France in Epcot's World Showcase (WS).

Or it may be CdeF - much like CduS - very sophisticated!

MCH is Mickey's Country House in Magic Kingdom's (MK) Toontown (TT) - This is where Mickey lives, but he's rarely there. He mostly hangs out in the Judge's Tent in Toontown. I don't know where the Judge appears though.

If you want to see where Minnie resides, than it's a totally different MCH.

AP stand for Annual Passholder, not Artist's Palette. Unless the thread is discussing a place to dine at Saratoga Springs Resort (SSR). Then it's definitely not Annual Passholder, and probably Artist's Palette.

When they talk about a "Rehab Schedule" they are not referring to a detox program. They actually mean that a ride, attraction, or accomodations are being improved upon. I wish that I had known this before I waited 2 hours in the gutted Rarotonga Longhouse at the Polynesian hoping to find some support.

As you can see, I am quite an expert now. Well, perhaps I do have a few more things to learn. ;) Enjoy!

:moped: I try to go where the crowds are not, and that is to a non-EMH park. I never go to AM or PM EMH. I did use to really enjoy the extra cost E-nights though that they use to have at MK. :thumbsup2

bearette, this might help some......

http://www.wdwinfo.com/abbreviations.htm

And welcome to the DIS.

CS is Conservation Station in Animal Kingdom (AK).

Or it could be Coronado Springs Resort (but that's usually referred to as CSR).
Or you could be talking about a counter service restaurant. After a while the abbreviations will be 2nd nature. But you can't use them in the real world or your friends and family will think you have lost it- EXAMPLE:
"Honey, should we get a 4:00 adr for ltt at mnsshp or do the emh at mgm and get an adr for h&v and grab a fp for tot? IMHO we should do mnsshp but maybe we should just eat at a cs." Hahahaha- And he's like- "where is my Disboards to English dictionary."

I play it by ear depending on the crowds when we get there. if we get up good and early for a morning EMH and the lines for the busses are PACKED, we go and get something to eat and hit another park. And if we do hit a morning EMH, if we see the park filling we head to another one. evening ones are pretty hit and miss and really depends on the park; generally the only ones we use at night are MK because we are at Epcot so much already and AK and MGM we usually have no problem finishing on our regular trips.

It really depends on where and when. At Easter, for the MK, we really didn't have a choice -- every day was an EMH day in the a.m. That said, the place was more or less deserted at 7 a.m. (arrgh! So early!) But it was SO worth it to sail through Space, then Buzz, then Teacups (the kids insisted!), Pooh, Snow, Peter, Haunted, then Big Thunder, then Splash, then Pirates . . . all before 10:00 a.m.!! With 8 of us.

We were more careful with other EMH's. We enjoyed the Epcot evening EMH's because the park closes pretty early otherwise. We did not like the MK evening EMH because the crowds just lingered, and lingered, and lingered . . . .

We have never been to EMH and it not be crowded unless it was the AM one. I know I have read on here others have been and it is not crowded at all. We have tried it several times and the lines are to long. Of course this is the kiddo stuff too.

I voted EMH evenings a must, however, I do still plan around morning EMH. I plan not to go to parks with morning EMH.

:thumbsup2 The morning EMS is fantastic - we're a family of early risers and it seems most aren't! Well worth it!
